On April 11, 2024, the OPP’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau was notified of a suspected fraudulent gaming advertisement depicting an online gaming platform hosted by Casino RAMA. When clicked, the fraudulent advertisement redirects the user to a false application download page. This webpage is associated to WinSpirit Casino which is an unregistered gaming website. Casino RAMA is not associated with WinSpirit Casino or any other unregistered online casinos.

In Ontario, regulated gaming sites are held to high standards of game integrity, data security and player protections. Ontario residents who choose to gamble online are being reminded to be aware of such advertisements and to always ensure the gaming site they are playing on is registered with the AGCO. A full list of Ontario’s regulated casino and internet gaming sites can be found on the OLG and iGaming Ontario websites.

The IEB is a division of the OPP, embedded within the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and is responsible for conducting criminal, provincial and regulatory eligibility investigations to ensure integrity and public safety within the AGCO-regulated industries.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment locations in Ontario will remain closed until at least Friday, April 21, 2023 as we continue the work to restore our IT systems.

Earlier today, we also informed the public that due to the ongoing cyber security incident, Casino Rama Resort had made the decision to postpone the following shows. The Chris de Burgh concert scheduled for Friday, April 21 has been postponed to Thursday, April 27 and The Warrant, Quiet Riot and Helix concert scheduled for Saturday, April 22 has also been postponed, with a new date to be confirmed.

Also as of today, April 19, 2023, we do not have any evidence that personal information has been affected.  We want to reiterate that we have notified the relevant privacy officials about the incident and are working hard at restoring our systems.

Gateway Casinos and Entertainment locations in Ontario will remain closed in the coming days as we work to restore our IT systems.

Over the weekend, we detected a cyber security incident and closed our operations in Ontario. We have retained third-party cyber professionals who are working 24/7 to help us restore the IT environment.

Our upmost concern is the protection of personal data and information.  At this point, we do not have any information indicating that this incident involves any compromise of personal data. However, we are in the process of notifying the relevant privacy officials and gaming regulator of the incident.

“Gaming sector workers were pivotal to ensuring GCGC casinos rebounded following the COVID-19 shut-downs,” said Chris MacDonald, Assistant to the Unifor National President. “It has been a very difficult period for casino workers and these tentative agreements are a step in the right direction.”

Signed agreements include Great Blue Heron Casino, Casino Woodbine, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, and Shorelines Casino Peterborough, security workers at Elements Casino Mohawk, and Elements Casino Brantford.

Details of the tentative agreement will be released following the membership ratification votes to be held during the coming week.

Committees from two sites are still trying to reach an agreement this weekend. The Unifor members at Pickering Casino Resort and Casino Ajax are on strike until then.

“There is an unacceptable gap in the wages and benefits between workers doing the same job for the same employer an hour down the highway,” said Corey Dalton, President of Local 1090. “This strike is about fair working conditions across the gaming sector during uncertain economic times.”

The coordinated bargaining tables for Unifor members at GCGC properties met this week in Toronto seeking improvements to wages, benefits, and pensions. Unifor negotiators were also trying to reduce the employer’s reliance on precarious part-time jobs.
