A report by a community member on May 12, 2024 at 7:46 p.m. of a fight in the parking lot of a Yonge Street, Midland strip mall caused several officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment to attend and commence an assault investigation after locating an injured person on the ground at that location.
Investigators were able to locate a suspect person at the scene which was filled with witnesses and onlookers along with locating a female victim who required to be triaged by Simcoe County Paramedic Services at the scene and later transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment of injuries sustained in the assault.
Charged criminally in relation to this incident is a 16-year-old male of Barrie with the following charges.
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, suffocate or strangle
- Fail to Comply with Sentence (Two counts) contrary to the Youth Criminal Justice Act
The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Youth Court at a future date.
The identity of the accused cannot be released and is protected by the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
