Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a report of a vessel collision in the Sturgeon River of Tay Township at 12:55 a.m. on September 1, 2019. Investigators learned that a vessel navigating the Sturgeon River with eight persons aboard struck another vessel which was moored at a private dock in the river causing property damage only and failed to remain at the scene.
OPP officers were able to locate the vessel and operator nearby and upon speaking with the operator entered into a drinking and operating investigation resulting in Russell Lee 38 years of Georgian Bluffs Township being charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
He was released from police custody and will appear in Midland Court on September 19, 2019.
