Toys For Tickets Campaign A Success

The 14th annual Toys for Tickets campaign was a success as the Town of New Tecumseth had 35 parking tickets valued at $1,280 being paid with 59 toys and two gift certificates. My Sister’s Place and the Lions Clubs will distribute them during the holiday season.

“Now more than ever, it is important to help those in our community who may need a little extra help during the holiday season. Our Toys for Tickets campaign is a successful initiative that helps build awareness about parking restrictions while embracing community spirit and helping those in need,” said New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross.

From Wednesday, November 30 to Friday, December 9, 2022, the Town of New Tecumseth accepted toys or gift certificates as payment for parking tickets. The purchased toy was to remain in its original packaging along with the receipt to the Administration Centre that is of equal or greater value of the parking ticket.

In 2021, a total of 76 toys were collected as payment for 41 parking tickets valued at $1,585.

Toys collected throughout this year’s Toys for Tickets campaign will once again be distributed to youth in the community through the local Lions Clubs Christmas Hamper program as well as My Sister’s Place.

In addition to the annual Toys for Tickets campaign, in the spirit of the holiday season, the overnight parking by-law (no parking on streets between 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.) will not be enforced over the holidays from Friday, December 16 to midnight on January 1, 2023.

“Allowing overnight parking over the holidays gives our residents and visitors one less thing to worry about. If we do get inclement weather during this time, we ask our residents and visitors to please consider the needs of our snowplows,” Norcross said.
