Township Of Muskoka Lakes Funds Successful CIP Projects

The Township of Muskoka Lakes is excited to announce the completion of the first two Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Private Sector projects. The recently completed CIP includes provision of incentive programs to assist the private sector in stimulating redevelopment and facilitating property improvements, especially where it will make a positive contribution to the overall vitality of the downtown areas.

The Township launched the private sector incentive programs at the end of 2022. Field of Greens and Muskoka Insurance of Port Carling were the first two properties to benefit from these new programs.  The Township contributed just over $30,000 to both projects, leveraging almost $80,000 in private sector investment to improve each of the respective buildings. The work included upgrading to energy efficient lighting and windows, installing a new heating system, and improving electrical work.

“The Township is committed to encouraging long-term economic development and growth and is proud to begin to offer annual investments through the Community Improvement Plan. These investments help to revitalize, refresh and enhance businesses,” said Mayor Kelley. “The completion of these two projects marks an exciting time for the CIP program in Muskoka Lakes. Council looks forward to seeing new projects continue to come forward in the coming months.”

“There are an incredible number of issues facing local business owners and the support of The Township of the Muskoka Lakes, through the CIP Program, is a perfect example of how our local government is focused on creating targeted, timely and direct support to help position local small businesses for future success, said David Kitchen,  Owner/President, Field of Greens. “We strongly encourage other local business owners to inquire about CIP funding opportunities.”

The CIP program streams include: Attainable/Employee Housing, Shoreline Structures, Building and Mechanical Upgrades, Accessibility and Façade Upgrades; and Ecological Space Improvements. The programs assist building and business owners within the downtown cores of Port Carling and Bala, in helping with the costs of improving the look and viability of the community.

Applications are open year round on a first come first serve basis until funding is exhausted. To learn more about eligibility for the Community Improvement Plan and how to apply, visit the Township website.
