Over 150 students and 31 schools participated in the TLDSB Eco Summit, held on April 21 at Camp Wanakita in Haliburton this year. Students enjoyed a full day of eco-friendly workshops led by camp staff and community partners.
Numerous environmental stewardship activities were offered to the students including: animal adaptations, critter dip, invasive species, fresh water talk, tree identification, beaver dam hike, Iron Chef, bird feeding, and survival skills. Students learned the importance of preserving our fresh water resources, how to create a strong foundation when building a fire, and the benefits of fair traded goods. Team work and fun were key takeaways of the day, with low rope activities and group collaboration.
