Through Your Lens: City Launches Visit Orillia Fall Video Contest

Visit Orillia is inviting local creators to share their vision of autumn in Orillia for a chance to win one of three cash prizes.

The Through Your Lens: Visit Orillia Fall Video contest invites aspiring videographers to submit one original 30-second video highlighting the City’s seasonal events, activities, and scenery for a chance to win cash prizes and be featured in a 2025 Visit Orillia campaign.

“Orillia’s vibrant community and stunning natural landscapes make our city an extraordinary place to experience, especially in the fall. This contest gives our residents the chance to showcase their creative talents and capture what makes Orillia truly stand out during this season,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “I’m excited to see how our local videographers frame the beauty and spirit of autumn in our city.”

The contest offers a unique opportunity to promote Orillia in the most authentic way – through its residents. Submissions are open to temporary and permanent residents aged 18 and over. Participants must live within one of Orillia and Lake Country’s five municipalities: the City of Orillia, the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, or the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Severn.

Cash prizes totaling $5,000 are up for grabs for the top three submissions with the highest scores. A panel of local jurors will evaluate the entries based upon four key metrics, including originality, essence of theme, audience engagement, and production quality. The top three winning artists will be announced in January of 2025, with the winning video campaign being launched as part of Visit Orillia’s 2025 fall tourism campaign.

“Visit Orillia creates and promotes materials annually to highlight Orillia as a premier tourism destination in all four seasons,” said Michael Ladouceur, Director of Business Development, Tourism and Modernization. “This year we saw an opportunity to capture the magic of Orillia’s fall through the lens of those who know it best. We encourage the community to get creative and show why fall in Orillia is so special.”

Video submissions are open until Dec. 5, 2024, at noon, and can be submitted online. Access the application form and further information, including detailed contest rules and requirements, at orillia.ca/ThroughYourLens.
