Threat Near Gravenhurst School On Tuesday Leads To Hold And Secure

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a concern of a threat that was made near a high school in Gravenhurst.

On Tuesday November 5, 2024, at 12:40 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers responded to reports from the administrative team at a Gravenhurst high school that several young people had attended the school property near Sharpe Street, got into a conflict with students and made threats, referencing a weapon. No weapon was seen by students.

Police worked with the school team and put the high school and a nearby elementary school into a hold and secure. A hold and secure restricts the movements of everyone, staff and students are not permitted to leave the building and more importantly, no one is allowed to enter the school building. Staff and students continue their learning and activities inside the school building during a hold and secure. This is a step that is taken to ensure the safety of the school community while police work to resolve the situation.

Through interviews with students, the unknown young people were identified and located. They were co-operative with police and officers were able to confirm that they were not in possession of weapons. The hold and secure was lifted just prior to the end of the school day.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at crimestopperssdm.com.
