The heavy rains have subsided. The water levels have receded. As the community breathes a collective sigh of relief, locals continue to prove their resiliency, working to ensure the region rebounds from the Muskoka spring floods stronger than ever. The Lakelands Association of REALTORS® is joining the efforts, donating $5,000 to support recovery efforts. The organization has donated $3,500 to Muskoka Victim Services and $1,500 to The Minden Food Bank.
“We are firmly entrenched in the communities we serve and our members work hard to support those who work and live across our regions,” says Association President Wendy Webb. “So, when disaster strikes, we believe it’s vital to support those impacted and help them get back on their feet.”
The initiative is part of the Lakelands Association of REALTORS® official policy, created in 2014, to provide financial support when tragedy strikes in their member communities. The policy was created in response to the 2013 Muskoka floods. Over the years, the organization has donated to a variety of causes. “We are locally-minded,” says Webb. “It’s a priority for us to understand the needs of our communities and help to keep our members, residents and the natural surroundings healthy and vibrant.”
