Tee Up Your Career With Georgian’s Revamped Golf Industry Management Diploma

Georgian College has revamped its Golf Industry Management diploma and refocused the curriculum with help from employer and industry partners, to appeal to those who see golf as more than a game – a career. The program starts this September at the Barrie Campus.

The golf industry is booming and experiencing record growth, but also a talent shortage.

That’s why Georgian College has revamped its Golf Industry Management diploma and refocused the curriculum with help from employer and industry partners, to appeal to those who see golf as more than a game – it’s a future career.

Students will learn to be golf industry professionals both on and off the greens and gain exposure to a variety of career opportunities, including club manager, golf professional, tournament director, golf equipment sales, entrepreneurship, and more. They’ll also get the knowledge, skills and co-op experience they need to land their dream job in just two years, while they play and learn in the heart of golf country.

“At Georgian, our location amongst some of the best resorts and golf courses in Ontario gives our students and grads a distinct advantage. Our program combines unique curriculum and a paid co-op experience designed to prepare students for a successful career in the diverse and competitive Canadian golf industry,” said Tim Zado, Program Co-ordinator, Golf Industry Management. “It also provides other hands-on learning opportunities like field trips, workshops and industry certifications, as well as networking opportunities before they graduate.”

Other benefits include:

  1. expert faculty with a wealth of industry experience and extensive golf industry networks
  2. connection to an expert network of golf partners and alumni, including multiple field tripsto golf courses and related golf businesses
  3. a variety of golf association workshops and education series
  4. program alignment with Canadian Professional Golf Association (CPGA) certification, allowing students to be exempted from many courses and receive their certification quicker

Students also get to take their golf game to the next level by playing in Georgian’s state-of-the-art indoor golf instructional simulation lab, as well as local golf courses that offer playing privileges to students in this program.

Potential employers include public, private and semi-private golf courses, associations, equipment manufacturers and suppliers, golf retailers, instruction and coaching facilities, club fitters, and hotels and resorts.

The program is recognized by the PGA of Canada, and has a host of other industry connections, including the Club Managers Association of Canada, Canadian Golf Superintendents Association, Golf Canada, and the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada.
