On the evening of September 28, 2025, officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced an investigation into a serious two-vehicle collision involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in the village of Waubaushene.

Emergency services responded to a 911 call reporting a collision on Cherry Street, between Elm Street and Thiffault Street. Preliminary investigation indicates that an ATV, operated by a lone male driver, struck the rear of a parked vehicle.

The ATV operator was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a trauma centre in Toronto.

Following an extensive investigation, the ATV operator, Shaun RAMLER, 31 years of Tay Township, has been arrested and faces several charges under the Highway Traffic Act, as well as the following Criminal Code offences:

• Operation While Impaired
• Operation Over 80 Milligrams
• Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on January 8, 2026.

The 31-year-old male driver from Tay Township sustained life-altering injuries. He was treated at the scene by Simcoe County Paramedic Services and Tay Township Fire Services before being transported to a local hospital. He was later transferred to a trauma centre in Toronto for further medical care.

Members of the OPP Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team attended the scene to assist with the investigation. Their work includes examining factors such as vehicle speed, driver condition, use of safety equipment, mechanical status of the vehicles, and their positioning at the time of the collision.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or surveillance footage of the area prior to the collision to contact police. As a result of an ongoing police investigation, members of the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a search warrant at a Forest Harbour Parkway, Tay Township residential address at approximately 5:00 a.m. May 2, 2025.

CSCU investigators assisted by uniform OPP officers along with members of the OPP Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU), seized a considerable quantity of drug like substances believed to be cocaine, purple fentanyl, various prescription medications believed to be Oxycodone and Clonazepam, a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun with a fully loaded clip, a quantity of various caliber ammunition a conducted energy weapon (CEW) and an expandable baton. Additionally, a quantity of Canadian currency, a number of cell phones and other related drug paraphernalia were also seized. (See attached photograph).

Investigators have arrested and charged Kevin MUNRO 42 years of Tay Township with the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and who was held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

• Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
• Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
• Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

And further with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)

Also charged is a 34 year old female of Tay Township with the following criminal offences who was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada
• Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded at approximately 11:46 p.m. November 5, 2024 to the complaint and located the vehicle and spoke with the lone occupant, entering into an impaired by drug driving investigation.

The scene investigation resulted in the seizure of a quantity of drug paraphernalia and a further investigation at detachment by a qualified OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer has led to the following charges.

John Joe Danny Ganny 45 years of Waubaushene, Tay Township has been charged with – Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court, Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was further arrested on outstanding warrants held by detachment members in regards to area investigations.

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date. The involved motorcycle was towed and is the subject of a 45 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
