Crews arrived to a fully involved 4000 square foot residential home with fire through the roof.  The structure was a challenge to access due to a snow covered private roadway and not appropriate for fire vehicles. Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says the structure is unoccupied and the fire is under control.

Firefighters remain on scene dealing with hotspots and there are no displaced residents as the property which appears to be under construction.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no word on a damage estimate at the time of our story. There are no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

When crews arrived, that found a working fire in the garbage that quickly spread to the home. A dog is being credited for waking up the two people that were sleeping and allowing them to escape safely.

25 fire-fighters battled the blaze for five hours.

The location of the home and conditions made it a challenge for crews battling the fire.

There were no injuries reported. The home is a total loss and crews are working on investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire crews remind home and cottage owners to make sure all smoke alarms are tested and working properly as well as make sure all structures on your property are monitored for fire.

The OPP and Paramedics attended to find the male suffering from serious trauma. The 34-year-old male from Orillia was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Derek Simmerson, age 34, from Orillia.

The Bracebridge OPP Muskoka Crime Unit and Community Street Crime Unit, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, are investigating the sudden death of 30-year-old Jodi-Lynne Turner, which occurred on October 23, 2020, at a home on Uffington Road.

Many people have taken to social media to share condolence messages.

The OPP say that there is no concern for public safety.

On October 13, 2020, investigators recovered the vehicle belonging to Helen Sedo in a quarry near Williamsport Road, which is northeast of Huntsville, after it was located by hunters in the area.

Police say the vehicle had been completely burned.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have seen the vehicle or a fire between August and September at the location noted in the map below, to please come forward. We are also appealing to anyone who may have trail cameras in the area that captured anything suspicious.

Investigators believe that Helen SEDO is deceased. They continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, John SEDO was arrested and charged.

On Tuesday April 21, 2020 at around 10:00 a.m. Bracebridge OPP, Muskoka Paramedic Services and the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department responded to an industrial accident on Lock Street East at Joseph Street in Port Carling.

A crane (pictured) was attempting to remove a snowmobile bridge when it tipped over and ejecting the male operator. The male was transported by Paramedics to South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge with non life threatening injuries.

Witnesses tell Muskoka411 weather conditions were very windy at the time. The Ministry of Labour is investigating.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP Snowmobile Unit currently on patrol were dispatched and arrived on scene prior to the arrival of other EMS Units. The officers began assisting four snowmobilers on three machines who had driven into a combination of heavy slush and open water.

The officers were soon assisted by members of the Penetanguishene and Georgian Bay Fire Services whom the officers had to transport on the ice to the scene to effect rescue efforts. One snowmobile was stranded on an chunk of ice after self rescuing onto that ice chuck.

The wet and cold rescued parties were transported by the OPP Snowmobile Unit to an awaiting County of Simcoe Paramedic Services Unit for treatment of hypothermia and released.

OPP officers stress that ice surface travel is always risky as no ice is safe. Ice surface users should check with local businesses or Snowmobile Clubs to learn of area ice conditions. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident but ice unfamiliarity was and was nearly fatal for these snowmobilers.

OPP Officers and Fire Fighters are very grateful to the kind services offered by an area private citizen who provided his air scoot to assist in this rescue.
