On Saturday, November 1, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Almaguin Highlands OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Main Street when they stopped a driver and observed signs of alcohol consumption. Further investigation revealed the driver was criminally prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. The individual was arrested and transported to the Burk’s Falls OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Raymond Driffield, 38 years-of-age from Scarborough, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·        Operation while prohibited under the criminal code

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge on January 8, 2026. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP Detachment and Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Unit, Emergence Response Team (ERT), and the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PJFCET), executed a search warrant at a location on Soyers Lake Road in the Township of Minden Hills. Items seized include 2,413 cannabis plants, twenty shotgun shells, and one air rifle.

As a result of the investigation, Guo-Zhang Chen, 54 of Scarborough, and Yaping Wu, 36 of Scarborough, have both been charged with:

·        Cultivate, propagate or harvest a cannabis plant that is from seed or plant material that is illicit cannabis.

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden at a later date.

On July 30, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m. members of the West Parry Sound OPP Detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 400 as the driver was wanted by another police service.

Further investigation revealed the passenger in the vehicle was in possession of pipe bomb making material. Items seized as pipe bomb making material were turned over to the OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU).

Hoshane Allen, 33-years-of-age of Scarborough was arrested and charged with:

• Explosives – making or possessing for unlawful purpose
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Fail to comply with probation order
• Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The accused was held for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound and is scheduled to appear on August 6, 2025.

• Operation while impaired – alcohol

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 19, 2025. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

On Monday, April 28, 2025, shortly after 10:30 a.m. emergency services were dispatched to Faraday Lake for reports of a capsized canoe. When emergency crews arrived on scene there was one occupant of the canoe that was unaccounted for. Two other males had safely made it to shore.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located a body and confirmed it to be the occupant of the canoe. They have been identified as a 19-year-old male from Scarborough.

The individual had not been wearing a life jacket.

The water is still very cold making it more challenging if you fall in.

The OPP calls on everyone to ALWAYS wear a PFD or life jacket when on the water.

In January 2025, members of the Orillia Detachment CSCU commenced an investigation involving an individual trafficking drugs in the County of Simcoe. On February 25, 2025, members of the Orillia and Muskoka Community Street Crime Units (CSCU) arrested one individual in Simcoe County and executed Search Warrants of the individual’s residence and vehicle.

Police seized the following items:

·        19 9mm (prohibited magazine with automatic switch)

·        380 caliber (prohibited magazine loaded)

·        9mm ammunition

·        .380 ammunition

·        32 grams – Cocaine and Crack Cocaine

·        255 grams – Cannabis

·        $1700 Canadian Currency

As a result of the investigation Jonathan St. Louis (24) of Scarborough has been charged with the following:

·        (3 counts) – Possession of prohibited device – fully automatic switch and overcapacity magazines

·        (2 counts) – Unauthorized possession of a firearm

·        (2 counts) – Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm

·        (2 counts)- Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm

·       (2 counts) – Careless storage of a prohibited firearm

·         – Tampering with serial number of a firearm

·         – Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

·        – Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

·         – Possession for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs

·         – Possession of illicit Cannabis for the purpose of selling

The accused was held pending a bail hearing on February 26, 2025 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

On June 18, 2024, shortly after 4:00 p.m., Orillia OPP received information regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Highway 12 near Concession 1 in Ramara Township.

Orillia OPP arrived on scene with Ramara Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics (EMS) to one vehicle in the ditch and one vehicle blocking the highway with significant damage. With the assistance of Ramara Fire, they were able to extract the driver from the vehicle in the ditch. Upon speaking with the driver of the other vehicle, officers noticed the driver to be showing signs of being intoxicated by alcohol.

Both drivers were transported by EMS to a local hospital, however both were later transported to Toronto area Trauma Centre’s in life threatening condition.

The Central Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement unit (TIME) attended the location to continue the investigation. The highway was closed for several hours for investigation, however, has since been re-opened.

As a result of this investigation, Tricia Bottan, 52-year-old of Scarborough has been charged with:

• Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Operation causing bodily harm

On March 25, 2024, shortly after 8:30 p.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver.

Further to the investigation, police located the suspect vehicle on Yonge Street in the Village of Burk’s Falls. While speaking with the driver police determined the driver had consumed drugs. An arrest was made, and the driver was transported to the OPP detachment where further testing was conducted by an OPP Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE). The vehicle was towed and impounded.

As a result, Jason Donofrio, 38 years-of-age, of Scarborough, was charged with: operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday April 25, 2024, in Sundridge, Ontario.

• Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition at unauthorized place
• Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
• Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
• Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
• Passenger fail to wear seatbelt properly

The accused was held for bail and remanded into custody.

• Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
• Possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Opioid
• Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
• Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
• Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
• Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition at unauthorized place
• Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
• Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo

The accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on March 21, 2024.

 A Tiny Township resident contacted the OPP Communication Centre on June 19, 2023 after learning that the certified bank cheque of $28,000 he received for the private sale of his two personal watercrafts and a trailer had been returned by his bank as it was fraudulent. An initial investigation by members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment was conducted and a further investigation was commenced by members of the OPP Central Region Fraud Unit.

A similar prior event was reported by a Sommerville Township resident on May 19, 2023 after she sold her two personal watercraft and trailer and received a money order of $35,000 in exchange of which her bank later advised that it too was not honoured at the bank and being returned. An initial investigation was also conducted by members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Detachment and a further investigation into this incident was commenced by the members of the OPP Central Region Fraud Unit.

As a result of these further investigations, the accused in both has been identified and Criminal Code of Canada arrest warrants have been issued from both detachments for Toir Bikzad 28 years of Scarborough, Ontario for the offences of-

• Fraud Over $5000 (two counts)
• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada (two counts)
• Possession of an identity document

And further an Criminal Code of Canada arrest warrant has also been issued for the accused for the following offence in conjunction with this investigation in the City of Scarborough.

• Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

All charges are contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
