Running from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the event will bring together community members from across North Simcoe to enjoy a traditional Oktoberfest-inspired experience while helping Rotary continue its work supporting local organizations and community programs. Guests will enjoy a light Oktoberfest-themed meal, beverages and live entertainment from Stir It Up, a popular local band known for getting audiences on their feet.

On August 3, 2026, shortly after 12:30 a.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment observed a vehicle operating with a loud muffler in the area of John Street and Gignac Drive in the Town of Penetanguishene. The officer initiated a traffic stop after observing the vehicle enter a nearby parking lot and subsequently, entered into a drug investigation.

As a result of the investigation, police seized a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine, small quantities of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, Drug paraphernalia including three used glass pipes, and drug trafficking paraphernalia including a digital scale and a large quantity of Canadian currency.

Three individuals were arrested and charged.

Raymond Sarrazin, 27 years old of Midland, was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Opioid

• Possession of a Schedule I substance x 2 – Other Drugs

• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 4

The accused individual was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Claude Vallee, 53 years old of Penetanguishene, was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Opioid

• Possession of a Schedule I substance x 2 – Other Drugs

• Unnecessary Noise

The accused individual is to appear before at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date to answer to their charges.

Jaimee Scott, 33 years old of Penetanguishene, was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Other Drugs x 2

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Cocaine

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Opioid

• Possession of a Schedule I substance – Other Drugs

The accused individual is to appear before at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date to answer to their charges.

On July 20, 2026, members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a reported theft at a construction and quarry site on Lafontaine Road East in Tiny Township.

The investigation determined that sometime between July 18 and 19, a suspect entered the property on a motorized electric-style tricycle, accessed secured storage containers, and removed copper electrical wiring from a piece of heavy equipment.

The theft caused approximately $60,000 in damage, rendering the equipment inoperable and disrupting the company’s operations.

Investigators later identified a suspect who had allegedly sold stolen copper and brass to a local scrap metal recycler. Police subsequently recovered copper and brass that was confirmed to have originated from the construction site.

As a result of the investigation, Kevin Sovey, a 55 year old of Penetanguishene, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Break and Enter a Place with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
• Mischief to Property Over $5,000
• Theft Over $5,000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
• Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime
• Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.

On June 18, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., emergency services responded to a collision on hospital property at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care on Church Street in the Town of Penetanguishene.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a pedestrian was struck by a delivery vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. The pedestrian, a 61-year-old female who was an employee of the hospital, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) unit are assisting with the investigation, along with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid at this time.

On June 14 at approximately 5:15 p.m., an individual was observed displaying clear signs of alcohol consumption while entering the driver’s seat of a vehicle. At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 12 approach the RIDE program before completing a three-point turn, proceeding eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic. Officers stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Ogden Beach Road.

During the investigation, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption and the driver registered a fail on a Roadside Screening Device. Further testing at detachment confirmed the driver had consumed alcohol in excess of the legal limit.

On Saturday evening, May 23, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at a residence on Champlain Road. Police attended and observed the residence fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were already on scene working to extinguish the fire.

The residence sustained extensive damage. The scene was secured pending further investigation with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM).

The OFM has since completed the on-scene portion of their investigation. During the investigation, human remains were located within the residence that have be determined to be those of an adult male.
