The Ontario government is investing $345,164 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to help Alias Inc. build a new facility to expand the services offered by Georgian Medical Aesthetics. As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, this funding supports the development of health-care infrastructure, creates new jobs and addresses the health-care needs of residents in Parry Sound and neighbouring communities.

“Making health care accessible across the North helps improve quality of life for residents,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “This investment will enhance local health-care delivery in the Parry Sound region and contribute to a more resilient Northern Ontario.”

Alias Inc. is using NOHFC funding to build a modern facility in Parry Sound that will house a new clinic offering medically supervised services that support pelvic and musculoskeletal health, addressing the lack of specialized facilities in Northern Ontario. Georgian Medical Aesthetics will relocate to the new building and purchase new medical equipment to support staff and overall operations.

“Our government is making significant investments in health care throughout our region,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “This project is much needed in Parry Sound to improve the overall health of residents while also attracting more medical professionals to the area. I’m thankful for this project and pleased to see the support of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.”

“The NOHFC grant is crucial in helping us launch our pelvic wellness branch by providing the support needed to invest in advanced technologies, specialized equipment and training,” said Dr. Alethea Anderson, Founder and Medical Director of Georgian Medical Aesthetics. “This funding will allow us to expand access to much-needed health services in Northern Ontario, addressing gaps in care for men and women with genitourinary symptoms, while creating sustainable growth and local employment.”

The Ontario government is prioritizing investments through the NOHFC that protect northern industries and jobs, mitigate the impacts of U.S. tariffs and trade disruptions, and secure new opportunities for the long-term prosperity of Northern Ontario. The renewed focus is boosting competitiveness and ensuring the North remains a leader in Ontario’s economy.

This new direction is in addition to the province’s investment of an additional $30 million over three years, bringing the NOHFC’s annual budget to a total of $110 million. Together, these initiatives will benefit communities of all sizes, both rural and urban, including Indigenous communities.

The Ontario government is investing $500,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to help the Parry Sound Friendship Centre renovate its facility. This funding supports Ontario’s commitment to reconciliation by investing in community supports and services for Indigenous people, strengthening Indigenous partnerships and ensuring communities in the North have the infrastructure needed to remain strong and resilient.

“Our government is pleased to help the Parry Sound Friendship Centre expand into a new space to better serve its community,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “With funding support from the province, the new centre is now a safe, welcoming cultural space that not only honours and celebrates Indigenous knowledge and traditions but also serves as a valuable resource for education and collaboration.”

Founded in 1966, the Parry Sound Friendship Centre is one of Canada’s original Friendship Centres. It provides a place for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the Parry Sound region to come together, share traditions and learn from one another, and provides culturally appropriate programs, services and supports to Indigenous people living off-reserve.

The centre used NOHFC funding to complete a full renovation of the building it purchased to house its headquarters, which included new flooring and lighting, electrical and HVAC system upgrades, a kitchen overhaul and purchase of new appliances. With renovations now complete, the Parry Sound Friendship Centre is a modern and inviting space that can accommodate its growing number of staff and programs, as well as many events for the community and visitors to enjoy.

“Our government is proud to be supporting infrastructure that makes our communities stronger,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “This funding has helped to transform this building into a place for culturally appropriate programs and services that focus on improving the quality of life for urban Indigenous people. I’m thankful to the Northern Ontario HeritageFund for recognizing the importance of this project and helping to make it happen.”

The Ontario government is taking the next steps to deliver its Primary Care Action Plan, which is on track to connect everyone in the province to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029.

As part of this plan to connect everyone in Ontario to a publicly funded family doctor or primary care team, the Ontario government is investing $4,513,300 this year to connect up to 10,447 people to primary care across Parry Sound-Muskoka.

“Our government is making record investments in health care and taking real action to connect more people in Parry Sound-Muskoka to the care they need,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “This funding will help our family health teams and Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics create more spaces for patients, recruit more doctors and nurse practitioners, and connect more residents to primary care. While there is still more work to do, this investment is another important step forward in our plan to ensure everyone in our community can access a family doctor or primary care provider. I’m proud to see Parry Sound-Muskoka benefit from our government’s continued commitment to strengthening local health care.”

The Cottage Country Family Health Team, which serves South Muskoka, will receive $2,136,800 to help connect 6,090 patients to primary care. The West Parry Sound Health Centre Rural Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic will receive $1,140,500 to help connect 2,021 patients to primary care across the West Parry Sound region. The Algonquin Family Health Team and North Muskoka Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, which serves North Muskoka, will receive $620,100 to help connect 1,680 patients to primary care. The Wasauksing First Nation Health Department will receive $615,900 to help connect 656 patients to primary care.

Each organization will establish and communicate a local process for accepting new patients, supported by a plan to connect a high proportion of unattached residents, including those on the Health Care Connect waitlist.

These teams have been funded through the latest call for proposals under the Primary Care Action Plan, with all 124 funded teams expected to connect another 500,000 patients to primary care across Ontario.

Through the 2026 Budget, the province is also increasing overall funding for the plan to a total of $3.4 billion between 2025 and 2029.

The province has also exceeded its 2025-26 attachment goal under the Primary Care Action Plan, which was to connect 300,000 patients to a primary care provider by March 31, 2026. As of January 1, 2026, the province had already connected 330,000 people to care in 2025-26, surpassing its goal by more than 30,000 with three months still to go.

“Through our Primary Care Action Plan, we are connecting more people to care and have already exceeded our 2025-26 attachment target,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “By connecting more families to care in Parry Sound and Muskoka, our government is taking the next step toward connecting everyone in the province to primary care by 2029.”

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government continues to take bold and decisive action to grow the province’s highly skilled health-care workforce and ensure people and their families have access to high-quality care, closer to home, for generations to come.

“CCFHT is honoured to receive $2.1 million in provincial funding as part of Ontario’s plan to expand primary care teams, enabling us to attach more than 5,000 permanent residents to primary care across Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, and Wahta. Standing alongside our partners at West Parry Sound Health Centre, Algonquin Family Health Team, North Muskoka NPLC, and Wasauksing First Nation, this announcement represents a meaningful and much-needed win for the entire region, strengthening access to care for the communities we collectively serve.”

The Ministry of Natural Resources– Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District is advising
area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety bulletin is in effect in
the District until Friday, March 13, 2026

This message will affect residents within the MNR Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District
for portions of the District of Parry Sound, District of Muskoka, and County of Haliburton
within the Black, Boyne, Burnt, Gull, Pickerel, Seguin, Severn, Magnetawan and Muskoka
River Watersheds.

Residents and those visiting the area are advised to be aware of current watershed
conditions. Higher than normal water levels and flow conditions may develop throughout the area and residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, regularly
check for updated messages, and exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams.
Water levels in most lakes are at or below target for this time of year but are expected to
increase with forecasted precipitation and runoff from melting snow.

MNR advises residents to exercise extreme caution concerning ice conditions. No ice is
safe ice.

Residents and visitors should exercise caution while around waterbodies and maintain
close supervision of children and pets.

Residents that have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should
continue take necessary action to protect/secure any vulnerable property in proximity to
rivers and lakes and closely monitor developing conditions and regularly check for updated
messages.

Lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted to various degrees as
runoff from rainfall and melting snow enter watercourses.
The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions.
Further updates will be issued as appropriate.

Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for much of the area.
Significant rainfall is possible from March 6-7. The existing snowpack is expected to absorb
some of this rainfall, but significant runoff is possible with snowpack melt and rainfall
combined.
What: Total rainfall amounts of 35 mm to 50 mm and potential for thunderstorms, with
daytime high temperatures up to 13⁰ C are possible.
When: Friday evening, March 6 through Saturday March 7, 2026.

Additional information:

Daytime high temperature forecasted over 10⁰ C on March 7 and
March 9, potentially causing temporary accelerated melt of the snowpack. Temperatures
dip below freezing for an extended period by March 12.
Description of Current Conditions

Water levels in most lakes are at or below target for this time of year. Rainfall is anticipated
to cause lake levels to rise, and river flows to increase. The current snow water equivalent
ranges from above the historical average for the western portions of the district
(Magnetawan and Seguin River watersheds) to near normal for the eastern portions of the
district (Muskoka, Black, Burnt, Gull River watersheds) for this time of year.

Seniors from across the North Bay-Parry Sound region came together at Canadore College on Friday, February 27, 2025, for the Aging With Confidence Seniors Information Fair, a dynamic event dedicated to promoting healthy aging and active living. The fair featured local programs, services, and supports designed to help older adults stay informed, engaged, and independent. The Fair allowed participants to explore available resources, exchange information, and connect directly with service providers – all in one location. In its fifth year, the event had 35 vendors from 11 sectors. Looking to the future, the Fair will be held annually on the last Friday in February.

“These Fairs strengthen local communities by connecting older adults to essential programs, services, and health-related supports that promote independence and well-being,” said Sue Hesjedahl, Executive Director Older Adult Centres’ Association of Ontario. “OACAO is pleased to collaborate with The Village at Canadore College to deliver this Fair, with funding support from the Government of Ontario through the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.”

“It is vital that we, as older adults, age with dignity and confidence,” said Cheryl Holtzhausen, Village VIP (Very Important Panther). “This is only possible if we are aware of services and support available to us in the community. Physical and mental health are important if we are to remain independent and socially connected.”

Programs at The Village are multi-generational. Seniors interact with students from a variety of Canadore programs. Anchal Badwal, a Community Connector Student who is studying respiratory therapy, has been looking forward to the fair to showcase the work and programs being offered at The Village.

“This fair helps students learn to connect with the people we will serve in our careers,” said Badwal. “The fair improves access to services for older adults in our region.”
