On July 1, 2026 at 5:45 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers, along with the OPP Marine Unit, responded to a distress call from a boater indicating that a person had fallen out of their vessel and failed to surface. A couple had been returning to Bracebridge in their boat and while in the area of Sandy Bay near Bowyers Beach on Lake Muskoka, the weather changed very quickly, making navigation difficult. One of the people on board, a 67-year-old Bracebridge man, fell out of the vessel and was struggling in the water. Nearby residents responded to the calls for help and attended the location in boats as well, however the man has not yet been located.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) is assisting with the search this morning and anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at approximately 11:45 pm, officers were conducting a RIDE check on Main Street West in Huntsville, when officers entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result of the investigation Mark ALLISON, 62-years-old, of Huntsville, has been charged with:

·       Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, just before 1:00 a.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting general patrol on Kanien’keha:ka lohatatie (formerly Muskoka Road 38), in Muskoka Lakes Township, and conducted a traffic stop to investigate a highway traffic act offense. The officer subsequently arrested and charged 39-year-old Sheldon Sahanatien of Bala, ON with Operation while Impaired and Over 80. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 4, 2026 to answer to his charges.

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint from a member of the public who was concerned about some very aggressive driving on Taylor Road near Cedar Lane in Bracebridge. The complainant described that the other driver was throwing items out of their vehicle as well. Officers located the vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged 30-year-old Chloe Campbell of Sprucedale, ON with Operation while Impaired- Over 80 and having care or control over a motor vehicle with liquor readily available. She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 11, 2026 to answer to her charges.

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 6:45 p.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 11 in Bracebridge and conducted a traffic stop to investigate a Highway Traffic Act offense. The officer subsequently arrested and charged the driver, 33-year-old Juan Orozco Lopez, of North York, ON with:

• Impaired Operation- Over 80
• Speeding
• Class G1 licence holder- unaccompanied by qualified driver
• Novice driver- B.A.C. above zero

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 11, 2026 to answer to his charges.

On Monday, June 30, 2026, at 1:45 a.m., a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting general patrol on Muskoka Road 169 in Muskoka Lakes Township and conducted a traffic stop after witnessing some concerning driving behaviour. Police subsequently arrested and charged 21-year-old Joseph DanielL of Newmarket, ON with:

• Operation while Impaired – Over 80
• Careless Driving
• Change lane not in safety
• Follow too closely

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 4, 2026 to answer to his charges.

On June 22nd, 2026, police received a report that a RV trailer had sustained damage caused by a pellet gun. Multiple windows were found broken. The incident is believed to have occurred on North Road in Lake of Bays sometime between June 20^th and 22^nd.

As the use of e-bikes continues to grow across communities in Central Region, it is important for riders to recognize that e-bikes, also known as power-assisted bicycles, are subject to Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act and Ontario Regulation 369/09.

To be legally operated, an e-bike must meet the following requirements:

• Be equipped with operable pedals

• Have an electric motor rated at 500 watts or less

• Have a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h

• Weigh no more than 120 kg, including the battery

• Be equipped with two independent braking systems

• Have the battery and motor securely fastened to the frame

• Have all electrical terminals properly insulated

• Meet all Ontario equipment standards

E-bike riders must also:

• Be at least 16 years of age

• Wear an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet

• Follow the same rules of the road as cyclists

• Refrain from riding on controlled-access highways

Riders should also be aware that municipalities may have additional bylaws or restrictions in place that limit where e-bikes can be used, including on certain pathways, trails, or waterfront areas. Always watch for posted signage and follow local regulations.

Unlike motor vehicles, e-bike operators are not required to have a driver’s licence, vehicle registration, licence plates, or insurance.

As more residents turn to e-bikes as a convenient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation, the OPP encourages all riders to prioritize safety, remain aware of their surroundings, and respect the rules of the road.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m., members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple complaints of a pickup truck driving erratically in the area of Highway 12 and Reeves Road.

Callers reported the vehicle was leaving the roadway, had struck a sign, and eventually came to a stop on a nearby private laneway. Officers arrived in the area shortly after and located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence.

Through the investigation, officers identified the driver and observed signs of impairment. The individual was arrested and transported to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment for further testing, where it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol in excess of the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, Gary Sweet 61 years, of Tay Township, has been charged with:

• Operation While Impaired

• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on August 6, 2026. All drivers charged with impaired operation receive a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle being operated is impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds motorists that impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of death on Ontario roads. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and never drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is encouraged to call 911.

On June 23, 2026, the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on Highway 400 regarding a southbound commercial motor vehicle swerving within its lane, striking the shoulder, crossing the centre line, and nearly causing collisions with other motorists.

Police located and stopped the vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. A Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was completed with the driver, who was arrested for impaired operation as a result.

Manpreet Singh, a 27-year-old of Brantford, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·     Dangerous operation

·      Window obstructed

·      Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on August 20, 2026. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
