The Public Works Week Open House event will take place on May 25, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Municipal Operations Centre, located at 20 James St. W. The event is free, but the City is encouraging attendees to bring a non-perishable food donation to help fill a sidewalk plow full of food to benefit The Sharing Place Food Centre.

“From maintaining our roads and parks to ensuring clean and safe water flows from our taps, our Environment and Infrastructure Services team is dedicated to providing important services to our community,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “Join us on May 25 at our open house to participate in some fun, family-friendly activities, check out the equipment, and learn more about the essential operations and the dedicated team who serves Orillia residents every day.”

The event will take place rain or shine. Attendees can check out some of the City’s large equipment and fire trucks. Light refreshments will be available and staff from various areas of the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department will be on hand to answer questions and provide information regarding Orillia operations.

There will be a variety of activities such as:

Trivia, games and prizes

Paint the Plow

Name the Plow contest kick-off

Gardening workshops

Tours of the James Street Greenhouse, Water Filtration Plant, and Wastewater Treatment Centre will take place throughout the morning. Open House attendees can sign up for the tours in-person at the Municipal Operations Centre during the event.

The City’s Environment and Infrastructure Services Department has 110 full-time staff and approximately 40 part-time/seasonal staff.

The Town of Bracebridge is celebrating the team that keeps the community moving during National Public Works Week (NPWW) from May 21 to 27. The Town’s public works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance and contribute to Bracebridge’s vibrancy, health, and well-being.

The theme of NPWW this year is “Connecting the World through Public Works” and highlights the way public works professionals connect us physically through infrastructure, and inspirationally through service to communities, whether as first responders in the event of an emergency or through daily tasks. Every public works professional strives to improve the quality of life for the community they serve, leading to healthier and happier communities. The Town’s Public Works team is comprised of dedicated team members that provide critical and essential work including construction and maintenance to keep sidewalks, roads and bridges safe, snow removal, facility maintenance, parks and trails, and more.

Food Drive
During NPWW, the Town’s Public Works team will be holding a food drive in support of Manna Food Bank. Non-perishable food and baby items can be donated at the following locations:

Municipal Office, 1000 Taylor Court;

Bracebridge Sportsplex, 110 Clearbrook Trail; and the

Bracebridge Public Library, 94 Manitoba Street.

To learn more about the Public Works team, visit bracebridge.ca/publicworks.

“This National Public Works Week, I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn about the vital role our Public Works teams plays in keeping our town moving. Our valuable team members not only maintain road infrastructure, sidewalks and facilities, but are often the first ones responding when faced with an emergency and severe weather impacts. This NPWW take the time to recognize these dedicated individuals for all they do for the community.”

– Rick Maloney, Mayor, Town of Bracebridge
