]]> The Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another driver with impaired driving in Bala.

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 10:45 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers were dispatched to reports from members of the public about a possible impaired driver near Bala Falls Road in Bala after the driver was turned away from a licensed establishment. Officers attended and located the vehicle a short distance away. Police arrested and charged 20-year-old Dylan Armstrong of Markham, ON with Operation while Impaired, Over 80 and Mischief.

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 30, 2026 to answer to his charges.

]]> Female Identity Confirmed

Police have determined the identity of the human remains discovered in McDougall Township.

On August 12, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of found human remains on a property on Avro Arrow Road. The human remains have been identified as a 56-year-old female reported missing to the York Regional Police (YRP) on August 9, 2024.

The investigation is being led by YRP, with support from the OPP including the Criminal Investigation Branch, West Parry Sound Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services and the North East Regional Support Team. Additional information on the YRP-led investigation can be accessed on the YRP website.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area between August 9 and August 12, 2024, is urged to call the West Parry Sound OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

From York Regional Police:

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have confirmed that human remains located in the Town of Parry Sound on Monday, August 12, 2024, are those of missing Markham woman Yuk-Ying Anita MUI.

On Friday, August 9, 2024, MUI, 56, was reported missing by family after they had not heard from her since 11 a.m. Her white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 sport utility vehicle was located in the area of Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue, in the City of Toronto.

On August 12, OPP officers reported that burned human remains were located in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400, in McDougall Township.

The Office of the Chief Coroner has positively identified the deceased as MUI.

Through investigation, it was learned that suspects were in possession of property belonging to MUI. As a result, three youths have been charged. See attached charge list.

Investigators believe this is a targeted incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators have identified a vehicle of interest, a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van. Investigators believe MUI was transported in a vehicle similar to this and are asking anyone who may have seen this van or have dashcam or CCTV video in the area of 3821 Vandorf Sideroad, in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, or in Parry Sound between August 9 and August 12, to please contact them.

]]> The Orillia OPP have arrested and charged three individuals with impaired driving over a six-hour period, all involved in collisions, and two causing Highway 11 to be closed for short periods of time.

On August 4, 2023, at approximately 10:10 p.m., police were dispatched to reports of a possible impaired driver on highway 11. The vehicle was located by Orillia OPP officers near Westmount Drive and Coldwater Road, in the City of Orillia. The driver was determined to be impaired and subsequently arrested by police.

As a result, Tiffany Shibley, age 55, of Markham ON has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired
  • Operation while Prohibited
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Obstruct Police Officer

The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on September 19, 2023.

On August 5, 2023, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Officers responded to reports of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 northbound, in Oro-Medonte. Upon arrival, officers determined the driver of the motor vehicle was displaying signs of alcohol consumption and was subsequently arrested.

As a result, Brandon Hussain, age 30, of Barrie has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless Driving (HTA)

The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on August 29, 2023.

Highway 11 northbound had to be closed for a short time to facilitate the removal of the vehicle and repairs to the highway.

On August 5, 2023, shortly after 4:00 a.m., Officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 northbound near Line 2, in Oro-Medonte. Upon arrival, officers located injured occupants. Police also determined through their investigation that one driver was impaired.

As a result of the investigation, Lennox Powell, age 54, of Toronto has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section
  • Careless Driving (HTA)
  • Driving While Suspended (HTA)

The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on 29 August 2023.

The driver of one vehicle suffered minor injuries and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Highway 11 had to be closed for a short time to facilitate removal of damaged vehicles and repairs to the highway.

Orillia OPP remains steadfast in its response to removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Please take a cab or rideshare service, call a friend for a ride, or make safe alternative arrangements if you consume intoxicating substances. We encourage to motoring public to call 911 if you believe you observe someone driving impaired.
