Motorcycle Driver Charged After Holiday Monday Crash On Hwy. 400

A holiday Monday crash in the southbound lanes of Highway 400 involving a motorcycle and a SUV has resulted in charges for the motorcycle driver and snarled traffic for cottagers heading home.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment. along with Tay Township Fire Service and County of Simcoe Paramedics were dispatched to the scene north of Quarry Road at 2:30p.m. September 2, 2024.

Scene investigation resulted in a charge of Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act to be issued to the 27 year old Barrie male operating the 2022 Triumph motorcycle who also had a female passenger aboard at the time of the crash. Both occupants of the motorcycle were triaged and transported by paramedics to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

The occupants of the Hyundai SUV were uninjured.

OPP Nab Stunt Drivers On Hwy. 400 Seizing Licences, Vehicles And Booze

As the warmer weekends of summer approach, officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment have been honing their skills on nabbing stunt drivers on Highway 400 in the interest of road safety.

Stunt #1

On April 28, 2024 at 11:37 a.m. a black Honda CRV caught the eye of an OPP patrol officer as it appeared to be travelling well above the posted 100km/hr Highway 400 speed limit and it was determined that the vehicle was travelling at 154 km/hr.

The vehicle was safely stopped near Go Home Lake Road and the young driver was spoken to by the officer who commenced a further stunt driving investigation resulting in the following charges being preferred upon the 23-year-old male with a novice “G2” class licence residing in Toronto.

The accused will appear before the Ontario Provincial Offences Court at a future date and his vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 14 days, as well his drivers licence was suspended on the spot for 30 days as per the conditions set out in the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

Stunt #2

On April 26, 2024 at 3:13 p.m. the same officer caught sight of a Dodge Ram pick up that appeared to be travelling well above the post 100 km/hr posted Highway 400 speed limit. A speed of 160 km/hr was obtained for the pick up which was safely stopped in the area of Honey Harbour Road.

The officer spoke with the driver and entered into a stunt driving investigation as well as a Liquor Licence and Control Act investigation as there was open alcohol in the vehicle.

As a result of these investigations, a 22-year-old male of Parry Sound with a novice drivers licence was served a series of summons for offences contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as follows to appear before the Ontario Provincial Offences Court at a future date.

159 km/hr On Hwy. 400 In Georgian Bay, Driver Charged

During the month of May 2021, uniform officers from Southern Georgian Bay OPP have responded to public complaints of motorists and commercial vehicles speeding and other related traffic violations on area roadways. Calls to the OPP Communications Centre and through the OPP Online Reporting have been recorded and acted upon as follows-

Officers attended 41 complaint areas and issued 463 tickets and warned 243 drivers for their driving infractions.
102 hours of focused patrol in these noted areas

Officers also provided 13 hours of R.I.D.E. check stops at 19 locations checking 568 vehicles for signs of impairment.

Recently, officers encountered the following stunt driving (50km/hr over the posted limit) incidents resulting in (ADLS) suspensions and vehicle impounds.

May 25, 2021 66 year old Midland driver stopped, charged and suspended for the offence of Speeding- 143 km/hr in an 40 km/hr construction zone along Simcoe County Road 93, Midland.
May 22, 2021 20 year old Burlington driver stopped on Highway 400, Georgian Bay Township for the offence of Speeding- 159 km/hr in an 100 km/hr zone and was charged and drivers licence seized.
May 12, 2021 37 year old Barrie driver stopped on Old Fort Road, Tay Township for the offence of Speeding- 133 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone and was charged and drivers licence seized.
June 2, 2021 38 year old Wasaga Beach driver was stopped and charged for the offence of Speeding – 125 km/hr in an 60 km/hr zone, No Insurance and Drive while under Suspension on Baseline Road, Tiny Township
