On October 8, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Huntsville OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 117, near Brunel Road. One driver, an 83-year-old of Huntsville, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Highway 117 near Brunel Road will be closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists assist with the investigation.

Officers were dispatched at 12:44am on August 12^th, 2023, to a report of an injured male on Muskoka Road 117 near Birch Glen Road in Lake of Bays. The suspect vehicle is described as a light-coloured pick-up truck. As a result of the collision this vehicle may have damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

On July 31, 2023, at 7:15 p.m., Bracebridge OPP, along with Muskoka Paramedic Services and Bracebridge Fire Department, responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving passenger vehicles and two motorcycles on Muskoka Road 117 just east of Highway 11 near Springdale Park Road in Bracebridge. As a result of the collision, a 16-year-old from Cloyne, ON, who was operating of one of the motorcycles, has died.

Muskoka Road 117 was closed in both directions while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators completed their investigation and all lanes have since reopened.

“With the early warning of the smoke alarms sounding, the occupants were able to safely evacuate the building” said Fire Chief Gary Monahan.

There were no injuries and the cause and circumstances are currently under investigation. Damage is estimated to be $400,000.The five people in the staff house for Bigwin Island lost everything in the fire, but made it out safe.

After an investigation into her driving behavior, 42-year-old Abbey McIntyre of Barrie was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired- Over 80 and having open liquor readily available.

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 12, 2021 to answer to her charges.

Later that same day at 9:35 p.m. Bracebridge OPP officers were called to a traffic complaint of a vehicle that was erratically driving on Doe Lake Road in Gravenhurst, almost hitting him head on.  The vehicle was located shortly after and the female driver refused to cooperate with police. Subsequently OPP charged 42-year-old Kara Penning of Gravenhurst, with Failure/Refusal to comply with demand and driving a ehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 12, 2021 to answer to her charges.

Drivers charged with Impaired Driving or Refusal face an immediate 90 day driver’s license suspension and their vehicle will be towed and impounded for a minimum of 7 days.
