Muskoka, ON – The District of Muskoka is reconstructing King William Street from Scott Street to Highway 60. The project is scheduled to start as early as late spring and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The project is part of the District’s investment in essential systems that make housing possible and will increase capacity to support 3,200 new homes in the Town of Huntsville. 

Replacement and upgrades to aging water, wastewater and transportation infrastructure will boost housing and the economy locally and support the long-term health of Muskoka’s lakes, rivers and communities. 

“Building homes starts long before the construction of actual houses. The King William Street reconstruction project is an excellent example of this,” said Jeff Lehman, District of Muskoka Chair. “By replacing the old road surface and underground pipes, we are ensuring the services we need today keep working, while also making intersections safer, improving access for everyone, and preparing the area for future homes and new development.” 

Work will include removing and replacing: 

• Aboveground: road, traffic signals  
• Underground: sanitary and storm sewers, watermains 
• Streetscape: curbs, sidewalks, boulevards 

What the Community Needs to Know   

Traffic Impacts  

• To allow this work to be completed safely and efficiently, parts of King William Street will be partially closed and limited to one-way traffic. 

Access Maintained 

• Access to all businesses will be maintained during construction. 
• A dedicated lane will be maintained for all emergency vehicles. 
• Pedestrian crossings at Rogers Cove Drive and the Huntsville Place Mall entrance will remain open. 

Updates and Scheduling 

• Municipal 511 will be updated to help keep Google Maps and Waze current. 
• Delays may occur due to unforeseen conditions. The District will provide advance notice where possible.

Construction Café 

• Residents are invited to attend the project’s first Construction Café on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Henrietta’s Pine Bakery at 92 King William Street in Huntsville. 
• Residents can drop in to this relaxed, casual session any time between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to enjoy a free coffee with the project team, while discussing reconstruction updates and asking questions.

On Friday, April 24, 2026, officers responded to the area of Main Street West at approximately 12:00 am following reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, officers determined that a single vehicle had left the roadway, striking seven unoccupied parked vehicles and causing structural damage to a nearby residence. Due to safety concerns related to the damage, residents were temporarily relocated to a local hotel.

The 30-year-old driver of the motor vehicle was transported by ORNGE air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

Returning favourites include legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Cuddy (2 shows), the enchanting Holly Cole, acclaimed comedian Ron James, Canadian icon Steven Page, country legends The Good Brothers, and the return of William Prince, bringing his signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and country gospel.

Audiences can revisit iconic albums with Classic Albums Live: Hotel California. Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live recreates legendary records live—note for note, cut for cut—with world-class musicians. CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR! returns for two epic sing-along shows celebrating the hits of the ’80s and ’90s. Additional tribute highlights include The Last Waltz (The Band), Oh So Sweet (Gordon Lightfoot), and Whiskey Jack (Stompin’ Tom Connors).

The season also showcases outstanding Canadian talent, including the eclectic Rheostatics, Celtic fiddler Ashley MacIsaac, maritime troubadour Adam Baldwin, and Toronto indie legends Lowest of the Low, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their seminal album Shakespeare My Butt.

Programming continues to include unique venues. Hillside Farm will host MORE BARN!: The Music of Neil Young for two nights, spearheaded by local favourite Tobin Spring, as well as a performance by multi-JUNO Award-winning banjo player Kaia Kater.

Classical music lovers can look forward to the return of The Elmer Iseler Singers, joined by Vancouver’s renowned Bergmann Piano Duo for a dynamic program including selections from West Side Story. In August, local pianist Kyung-A Lee returns with a stunning candlelight concert celebrating iconic film music.

History and storytelling take centre stage with the return of Tom Thomson’s Wake, a musical exploring the life and mysterious death of the famed Canadian artist. Legendary broadcaster Alan Cross will also present an engaging talk featuring stories from his career and insights into the evolution of modern music.

Comedy fans can enjoy Yuk Yuk’s On Tour at Canvas Brewing, while the Cottage Country Drag Festival returns with a vibrant showcase featuring the Spice Queens, Karamilk, and performers from Muskoka’s drag community. For families, Dogs Do Magic promises an unforgettable mix of magic, comedy, and canine hijinks.

The festival also features a wide range of community events. Nuit Blanche North returns as a one-night, multi-arts street festival transforming downtown Huntsville. Movie on the Docks offers a unique boat-in cinema experience, with films projected on a double-sided screen for audiences on land and water.

On June 21, HfA will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at River Mill Park, featuring performances and activities that honour Indigenous culture and heritage. Canada Day celebrations include the 2026 Canoe Mural Project, where graffiti artists reinterpret the works of Tom Thomson on canoes.

Additional highlights include the Huntsville ART CRAWL (June 1–August 30), and Dancing on the Docks, a free weekly event featuring live music and dance instruction every Thursday evening.

HfA will also partner with ISKCON Muskoka to present a free concert with Delhi 2 Dublin at River Mill Park, featuring food, family-friendly activities, and a Bhangra dance class ahead of the performance.

As a result of the investigation on April 10^th 2026, Dylan Bannister, a 24-year-old of Huntsville was arrested and charged with the following offences:

·      Break, Enter a Place (2 counts)

·      Theft under $5000 (2 counts)

·      Mischief under $5000

The charges stem from break and enters at a business on Main Street in Huntsville on March 27, 2026, and a business on Highway 60 in Lake of Bays on April 4, 2026.

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Tuesday May 5^th, 2026.

Police continue to investigate the remaining break and enter incidents.

March 27, 2026 – Main Street, Huntsville

At approximately 2:50 a.m., an unknown suspect broke a window and gained entry to a restaurant on Main Street near John Street. An unknown amount of cash was taken. Video surveillance captured a suspect wearing a grey and black coat with hood up, dark pants and dark footwear with white accents.

April 3, 2026 – Arrowhead Park Road, Huntsville

During the morning hours, a storage unit on Arrowhead Park Road was broken into. A late-model white Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck was observed in the area. Two people were seen; one described as heavy-set. Items of unknown value were taken.

April 4, 2026 – Highway 60, Lake of Bays

Between 12:18 a.m. and 12:26 a.m., a business on Highway 60 near Tally Ho Beach Road was broken into by a suspect wearing a scarf around his neck and a bulky coat. Various items of unknown value were stolen.

April 4, 2026 – King William Street, Huntsville

At approximately 1:48 a.m., officers responded to a break and enter at a business on King William Street. The suspect gained entry by smashing the front door and removed an unknown amount of cash. Surveillance footage shows the suspect wearing a dark-coloured coat with hood up, the face appeared covered. The suspect left area in a four-door silver sedan.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects is asked to contact the Huntsville OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

On Wednesday April 8, 2026, at approximately 10:49 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE check on Brunel Road in Huntsville. An impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in the arrest of 35-year-old Michael Ryan of Huntsville , who has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 5, 2026.

On Thursday, April 2^nd, 2026, at approximately 11:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in progress near the intersection of Main Street East and Kitchen Road South. Upon arrival, officers located and arrested an individual who had assaulted a woman not known to the accused.

As a result of the investigation, Thomas Fletcher 36-years-old of Huntsville was arrested and charged with:

• Assault
• Cause a Disturbance
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for bail, and currently in custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Thursday April 9^th, 2026, to answer to the charges.

On March 31, 2026 at 3:15 p.m., the Huntsville OPP were made aware a single vehicle collision on Brunel Road near Muskoka Road 10. Several passing motorists called police, but the involved driver did not call police to report the collision and left the scene. There was damage to the guardrails as a result of the collision.

Police conducted an investigation and attended the young person/drivers residence. Police immediately suspected the young driver to be under the influence of a substance. After conducting standard field sobriety tests and alcohol breath testing the young driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 17 year old Male of Huntsville Ontario, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Young driver BAC above 0

·      Fail to remain (at scene of collision)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario on May 7, 2026.

The accused received a 90 day license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days

Of obvious concern is the age of the driver and the time of the offense.

The driver cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

In Ontario, drivers aged 21 and under, or those with G1/G2/M1/M2 licenses, must have zero alcohol or drug presence in their system. Violations lead to an immediate 7-day or 14-day licence suspension, a 30-day suspension upon conviction, vehicle impoundment, a fine, and mandatory education programs.

Conviction Penalties (Court-Ordered)

If convicted of a violation of alcohol or drugs in the system of novice drivers, you may face:

• Lengthy drivers license prohibition, Mandatory ignition interlock, Court Fines, Mandatory Education or Treatment Programs, Reinstatement Fee and must pay to get the license back.

On March 31, 2026, around 8:59 p.m., members of the Huntsville OPP were conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Highway 60 when they observed a vehicle travelling at a noticeably high rate of speed. The officer confirmed the speed to be more than double the posted 70km/h speed limit.

As a result, Hasan Rahmeh, 27-year-old of Oakville Ontario was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed.

The driver received a 30-day license suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days. The driver is to appear in Provincial Offenses Court in Bracebridge Ontario in June 2026.

In Ontario, stunt driving charges apply if you drive 40 km/h or more over the limit on roads with a limit under 80 km/h, 50 km/h or more over on roads limit 80 km/h or higher, or any speed of 150 km/h or higher. This immediately results in a 30-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment

Speeding contributes to loss of life on our roads. In 2025, there were 75 deaths on Ontario Roads that were attributed to speeding. Drivers can adopt safe, defensive driving behaviours, which can go a long way in reducing the number of preventable deaths.
