Guests can also add a $1 or $2 donation to any order in store or in the drive-thru. This initiative is a continuation of Harvey’s long-term partnership with Tree Canada to help plant more trees across the country.

“Continuing and expanding this partnership with Harvey’s means more trees will grow and absorb carbon throughout Canada,” said Gregory Hotte, Director of Development, Tree Canada. “We want to thank Harvey’s and their customers for their continued support in helping us grow better places to live.”

Since the partnership began, Harvey’s has already planted 134,800 trees which more than compensates for all paper waste and drive-thru carbon emissions. Furthermore, these trees are capturing and storing an estimated additional 19,242 metric tonnes of carbon. Harvey’s target for 2023 is to plant up to an additional 50,000 trees which will compensate for up to 10,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Harvey’s partnership with Tree Canada is just one of several key initiatives that showcase a commitment to sustainability. Harvey’s supports sustainable beef production and has eliminated plastic straws and non-recyclable packaging by switching to paper straws and recyclable solutions including packaging made from 100% recycled water bottles.

“As a Canadian brand, helping keep Canada a beautiful thing is a top priority for us at Harvey’s,” said Michael Nault, Chief Operating Officer, Harvey’s. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Tree Canada to reach our goal of planting 50,000 this year and 250,000 trees by 2026.”

In addition to Harvey’s growing list of sustainability initiatives, Harvey’s is proud to be serving guests Canadian-sourced quality ingredients for over 60 years, including our beef, bacon, dairy and potatoes. Harvey’s Angus Burgers are made with 100% Canadian Angus beef that is raised without the use of antibiotics, added hormones or steroids and Harvey’s salads are made with greenhouse-grown Canadian lettuce.

The last couple of years have been tough on Canadians. With this being the first summer without restrictions, Harvey’s wants to reunite friends and family over free Better Together Burgers. From June 18 to September 5, the Harvey’s RV and street team will be visiting 12 towns across Ontario as well as free burger giveaways in Alberta and Quebec, providing another 100,000 free Better Together Burgers to burger lovers and a friend.

Canadians can enjoy a Better Together Burger and share another tasty Harvey’s burger with a friend or family member – on Harvey’s! Just like onion rings and fries are better together – AKA frings – burger lovers and their friends are, too. Guests can enjoy the burgers on-site with a loved one or share a digital coupon to someone they miss to claim their own free burger.

“The last few summers have been hard on everyone and Harvey’s burgers are synonymous with Canadian summer eats,” said David Colebrook, President, Harvey’s Canada. “Our goal is to celebrate by bringing everyone together again – and what better way than over delicious Harvey’s burgers.”

Harvey’s has supported Canadians throughout the pandemic and are excited to celebrate Canadians being together again. During Canada’s first lockdown in March 2020, all Government Healthcare Workers, Front Line Workers and their families received 50% off their orders at all Harvey’s locations. In summer 2020, The Harvey’s RV went on a cross-Canada tour to thank frontline workers with free burgers, giving away over 100,000.

Harvey’s also partnered with hockey manufacturer Bauer and all guests were met with a Bauer hockey stick holding the payment terminal as a fun way to maintain physical distance. A portion of the proceeds of all drive-thru sales were donated to Food Banks Canada. Then, last summer, when first and second doses were being administered, Harvey’s teamed up with Ontario Health teams at pop-up vaccination clinics around the GTA, offering free burgers from the Harvey’s RV for those that came out to get vaccinated.

“Giving away free burgers to Canadians and offering frontline workers Harvey’s discounts was our way of saying thank you for doing your part in keeping everyone safe,” said Chelsea Kellock, Vice President, Marketing, Harvey’s Canada. “Now that restrictions are lifted, Harvey’s wants Canadians to celebrate being able to reconnect with friends and family over free burgers.”

The Harvey’s RV will kick-off its tour on Father’s Day weekend in Oakville on Saturday, June 18 and Wasaga Beach Waterfront Festival on Sunday, June 19.

Harvey’s is doubling its effort to make Canada a more beautiful thing with their commitment to plant 50,000 more trees in 2022. This goal is a part of Harvey’s tree-planting sustainability initiative it launched last year in partnership with Tree Canada, with a 2021 target of planting 25,000 trees.

From June 27 through to August 1, 2022, a portion of proceeds from every transaction at Harvey’s restaurants will help plant trees in Canada. Canadians will still have the option to make an additional donation to Tree Canada at the cashier across all restaurant locations.

“We’re thrilled to continue partnering with Harvey’s this year to grow better places through planting and nurturing trees,” said Gregory Hotte, Director of Development, Tree Canada. “With the generosity of Harvey’s and their customers, together we can improve the lives of Canadians one tree at a time.”

This announcement builds off a growing number of initiatives from Harvey’s as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability:

In September 2020, Harvey’s launched the ‘Grow a Plant’ program, which provides a plant kit with every kid’s meal purchased in lieu of a plastic toy. Since then, 650,000 plant kits have been distributed to families.

Planting trees back into our Canadian soil, Harvey’s focus on Sustainable Packaging also saved an average of 5,000 trees from being cut down and 2 million litres of water per year that would have been used to generate paper. With 80% of the packaging containing recycled materials, Harvey’s has eliminated the use of an estimated 26 million units of plastic straws, 4.5 million units of non-recycle paper containers, 1.5 million units of styrofoam cups and more since 2019.

Keeping to their commitment of 100% Canadian Quality, Harvey’s also sources from Canadian farmers wherever possible to reduce its impact on the environment, including the Greenhouse Grown, Canadian lettuce served in their salads.

“Harvey’s has been proudly Canadian for over 60 years and we’re thrilled to continue in our journey of keeping Canada a beautiful thing,” said David Colebrook, President, Harvey’s Canada. “After surpassing our 2021 tree-planting target by almost 30 percent, we’re exceptionally motivated to plant 50,000 more trees this year to add to the 35,000 growing from last year. We’re grateful to have phenomenal partners in the community that strengthen our vision of a more sustainable Canada.”

Through this partnership with Tree Canada, Harvey’s plans to plant 250,000 trees by 2026 will compensate for an estimated total of 50,000 tonnes of CO2, enough to offset all of Harvey’s drive-through emissions. A total of 6,800 tonnes of carbon emissions have been offset to date.

To participate, Canadians can make an order on the Harvey’s App or Website, or visit their local Harvey’s restaurant. For more information on Harvey’s sustainability initiatives visit harveys.ca
