The recent leg of Bamford’s Canadian Dirt tour stopped in northern Ontario, as it makes its way across the country.

Country music fans enjoyed the intimate show that featured multiple Canadian artists, set against the backdrop of a beautiful decade-old heritage building.

Local musician Christina Hutt opened the show. Followed by singer-songwriter, and military veteran, Dallas Alexander, who was accompanied by Jesse Grandmont on the fiddle and Matt Rogue on drums.

Danielle Bourjeaurd also made a special appearance, performing her single Glass Houses.

Bamford delivered a well-rounded set, performing a mix of award-winning classics including Blame It On That Red Dress, and new music including Fire It Up.

During his performance, Bamford surprised fans Karen and Wes London from Minden with commemorative jerseys, for their dedication to attending over 25 of his shows.

Following the concert, fans were particularly excited about the opportunity to meet the artists and take photos.

The Canadian Dirt tour will stop in Midland, Picton, Kingston, Pembroke and Oshawa, before heading to the east coast.

He will be joined by emerging singer-songwriter, and military veteran, Dallas Alexander.

The tour follows the release of Bamford’s 11th studio album, featuring the track Canadian Dirt, a triumphant anthem about celebrating Canadian pride.

“I was really just reflecting on how grateful I was to raise a family and to live in a great country like Canada,” said Bamford, on his inspiration for the song. “Canada presents so many opportunities for so many people and I’m no exception. I’m very proud to live, and make a living, and do what I love in this country.”

Bamford – who was born in Australia, and raised in Alberta – stands as one of the most decorated and awarded artists in Canadian country music history. He has been the recipient of 26 Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMA) including Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, and has received multiple JUNO Award nominations.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Bamford supports numerous charitable initiatives through the Gord Bamford Foundation. He has raised $5.4 million for Canadian children and youth, touching the lives of over 700,000 children and communities.

“I feel it’s important to remember where you come from and it’s only natural to always go back and give back,” said Bamford. “Growing up in a small town I believe is the grassroots of what built my success and career.”

Alexander, who served over 17 years with the Canadian Armed Forces, holds a military world record for longest confirmed kill shot.

As a former member of the elite JTF2 sniper unit, Alexander was on the four-man team of snipers who took out an ISIS fighter during a 2017 operation in Mosul, Iraq, at a distance of more than 3.5 kilometres.

“It was an honour to be part of a team and get to serve with that calibre of warriors beside me,” said Alexander. “That’s what I feel most grateful for.”

Now, Alexander finds himself on a new mission, playing alongside one of the most accomplished Canadian country music artists in history.

Alexander was connected to Bamford at a show in Edmonton, and soon the two teamed up.

“A few weeks later, I had a text message from him asking to hear some of the songs that I’ve written. He liked the songs, and invited me to have a meeting with him to discuss how he could help me develop my music career.”

The duo have embarked on a cross-country tour, named after Bamford’s new title track Canadian Dirt. The tour is a celebration of Canadian pride, and will visit small towns across the country, including Gravenhurst.

“I have a massive appreciation for this beautiful country we live in,” said Alexander. “I have had the opportunity in my life to travel the world, and I truly believe we have some of the most breathtaking places here in our own country.”

Alexander, a native of Western Canada, grew up on a Métis Settlement in Alberta. His Métis heritage can be heard in his music, on tracks including Child Of This Land.

“I write a lot about where and how I grew up. As well, the fiddle is a big part of my music, which is also predominant in Métis music culture.”

With his exit from the military, and passing of his brother, Alexander turned to music as a form of therapy, which he credits as being an immensely positive influence on his mental health.

It was Alexander’s brother who inspired his pursuit of music, and he continues to honour him each time he steps on stage.

“When my brother passed away, I was drawn to pick up the guitar and music began to be therapeutic for me, with my grieving process,” said Alexander. “I am reminded of him everywhere and bring him along with me for this ride.”

The Canadian Dirt tour stops in Gravenhurst at the Gravenhurst Opera House on October 19.

“The first leg of the tour has been an absolute blast so far!” Shares Bamford, “I’ve been performing some of the new music and to hear such positive feedback from my fans, is what makes it all worthwhile.  Seeing the engagement, excitement and fans responding to the new music is so rewarding.  Also in the set, we’ve included a cool throwback medley with some of my favourite hit tunes, which have been fun to play again. This show is high energy and entertaining. I can’t wait to see ya out on the road!”

Joining Bamford on tour across all newly announced dates is Métis Canadian Country singer-songwriter Dallas Alexander. The second leg of the tour is set to kick off on September 8 in Marwayne, Alberta, continuing through to November 24 where it concludes in Calgary, Alberta (see complete list of tour dates below).
