The event, put on each year by Jackson Events at Rocky Crest Golf Club in MacTier, sees corporate groups and celebrities join forces to support great causes. This year sees 18 former NHL and MLB players, plus curling royalty and Olympian Rachel Homan, come together for the event.

“This event was born to bring something new and exciting to the Muskoka community,” the company said. “The concept was to play all 18 holes as par 3 so we created ‘The 54 Open Muskoka’. There are “closest to the pin” contests on all holes, and many holes have an opportunity to win a car, a boat, a hot tub or amazing prizing from our partners.”

Former Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Wendel Clark, who has been working with Jackson Events for 25 years, said that this event is one that he looks forward to each year.

“I have played in hundreds of charity golf events over the years, but being able to enjoy the day in my own backyard here in Muskoka is amazing, and to have such a unique and exciting concept is really special,” Clark said. “I love supporting their programs, especially when raising an incredible amount of money for causes like Easter Seals Ontario.”

The events will be hosted at The Lake Joseph Golf Club in Port Carling on May 25 and Muskoka Bay Resort in Gravenhurst on July 27. Registration for each qualifier closes 10 days in advance of the event, and there is a maximum number of teams per event.

The competition is open to teams of four eligible amateur golfers who all have an up-to-date Golf Canada handicap and are 19 years of age or older. 

The winners of each local qualifier are invited to participate in one of thirteen Regional Finals later this summer. From there, Regional Final winners will be awarded the chance to participate and win a National Championship at the prestigious Cabot Links Golf Course in Nova Scotia in the fall. There will also be two guaranteed spots at the National Final for all-female teams. 

Now in its 11th year, the PGA Scramble presented by BMW is the largest grassroots amateur golf program in Canada, taking place at over 185 locations. The program has steadily grown every year, with last year featuring over 12,000 participants from coast-to-coast.

On June 5, 2025, the 15th Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament was held at the Orr Lake Golf Club to support local not-for-profit and charitable organizations in North Simcoe.

The event featured an 11:00 a.m. shotgun start, packed lunch and buffet dinner, a silent auction, and a raffle draw featuring a patio cooler package, in addition to various on-course competitions and prizes.

This year’s fundraising efforts will support 12 local not-for-profit and charity organizations:

In the afternoon the course at Orr Lake was buzzing with excitement as news spread of a hole-in-one at Bourgeois Motors Ford’s sponsored hole that offered a 3-year lease on a brand-new vehicle or cash equivalent. Silvio Zitoli was the lucky winner of a $30,000 cash prize courtesy of Bourgeois for scoring a rare hole-in-one. In the spirit of giving back, Silvio decided to donate $500 toward the tournament’s fundraising goals.

“This year we hit an incredible milestone as we’ve now surpassed $500,000 in cumulative donations to local charities across North Simcoe through our annual golf tournament,” said Mayor David Evans. “I’d like to thank all of our participants, donors, sponsors, guests, volunteers, and staff that contributed to this very special 15^th Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament in Tiny and everyone that have helped us to give back to our community and those that need support most.”

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Township of Tiny has collectively donated over $517,000 to more than 40 local not-for-profit and charitable organizations through the Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament that focus on supporting community health and wellness, building the local economy, delivering exceptional services, and much more.

Lexi placed first in the U13 Girls division of the Simcoe County Junior Golf Tour Championship at Tangle Creek Golf Club on Aug. 27. She also played in the Pepsi Titleist Junior Golf Tour from mid-July to mid-August, taking second overall in the U13 Girls 9 Holes Division. She also competed in the Ontario Peewee U13 Championship in early August and practiced about 20 hours a week. Lexi’s love for golf started when she was five and came from another love in her life: her father.

“My dad was playing golf, and I thought it’d be really fun,” Lexi said. “He got me into it, and it just stuck.”

Golf is Lexi’s only sport. She hopes someday her skills will get her a scholarship to a school in the US and a place in the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She was proud to take home a championship win and said it was a fun new experience to be out on the greens for the tournaments.

“I like the competitive side of it,” she said. “When you have a good hole, you just want to keep your spirits up so you can keep it going.”

Lexi plays with the South Muskoka Curling & Golf Club. The group has a junior golf program that offers golf nights, clubs and clinics. They have over 100 junior members, including four girls who play on Lexi’s golf team.

She loves being part of the club and appreciates how the club’s head golf professional Jacklynn Miller brings more girls into the sport. Lexi also trains with coach Braeden Cryderman at TPC Toronto twice a month.

“Every time I see him, it’s something usually different,” she said. “Sometimes it’ll be the mental side and sometimes it will be the actual physical part of it.”

Lexi’s father Brad Quinton said it’s been cool to see her succeed in a sport he loves so much. He plays golf regularly, and he’s happy his hobby has inspired his daughter toward a potential career.

“It’s definitely good to see her trying to take it to the next level,” Brad said. “The last two years, her golf game has improved immensely.”

Her improvement comes from dedication to a rigorous schedule, Brad said. She does a daily workout routine laid out by her coach along with doing stretches every morning. She also has evening workouts twice a week in addition to her tennis practice.

Brad was elated to see her win the Simcoe County championship. He’s watched her put in the work for years, so it’s exciting to see her thrive.

“She’s getting her achievements because of all her hard work, and everything’s starting to pay off,” he said. “She really can start to see that the harder you work, those accomplishments are going to come.”

Brad and his wife Jen are happy to do whatever is necessary to help Lexi with her golf game. Though Jen isn’t a golfer, she’s more than happy to walk the courses and watch her daughter play. Jen is always there to cheer her on at tournaments and take her where she needs to go in between.

“We’re fortunate enough that she has summers off, so my wife Jen can get her to all her practices up and down the highway,” Brad said. “We live in Port Sydney, so it’s 20 minutes to Bracebridge and 20 minutes back. Sometimes there are multiple trips during the day to and from the golf courses to help Lexi achieve her end goal.”

Along with getting exercise and a lesson in dedication, golf has helped Lexi develop people skills and a kinship with other athletes.

Brad said he’s seen a sisterly nature between the female golfers in Lexi’s programs and tournaments. Older girls will help guide their younger counterparts, offering hugs in place of handshakes. They may be competitive during gameplay, but there’s always an undercurrent of kindness.

Some tournaments they attend have dozens of girls competing while others may only have a handful, so it’s important to Brad and his family to grow the game for girls in the area. The number of five- to nine-year-old golfers in the junior program gives them hope for the future, but they still want to encourage more girls to grab a golf club and give it a swing.

“There is a lot of girls playing, [but] there’s not a lot of girls that are playing competitively right now,” he said. “If we can get one or two more girls that want to join and play a few more competitive tournaments then we’re [going] a step in the right direction.”

Elexicon Energy (“Elexicon”), the electricity distribution company serving parts of Durham Region and beyond, recently hosted its fourth annual charity golf tournament at Deer Creek in Ajax. The tournament, one of the largest and most successful in the area, raised a record-breaking $338,000 for seven community agencies. The amount raised from
this year’s tournament exceeds last year’s amount by $138,000. The tournament has raised a remarkable $757,000 since 2019.

This year’s tournament recipients provide a wide range of vital services in the communities Elexicon operates in, including child and youth initiatives, community safety, and paediatric respite andhospice care. The seven recipients of the tournament are: five Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies, Kids’ Safety Village of Durham Region, and Sloane’s House Paediatric Respite & Hospice Care Centre.

“We are incredibly grateful to be one of the recipients of the tournament. Funds received will assist us with providing further opportunities to youth in our local communities through our life-changing mentoring programs. We currently have young people waiting up to four years for a mentor, additional funding will help support those young people and reduce waiting times. “More than $1-million raised for our hospital is such an incredible accomplishment for this passionate and hard-working group of volunteers,” says Nicole Kraftscik, CEO, GBGH Foundation. “They are making such a difference at GBGH through their investment in equipment and technology, and we are so grateful to each of them for their ongoing support.”

This year’s funds once again supported bringing an MRI machine to GBGH. With the donation from the tournament, total donations to the MRI fund have exceeded $2.9-million of the $4-million goal.

“I have personally been to Barrie or Toronto for an MRI on multiple occasions,” says Glenn Howard, tournament chair. “I know that having one in Midland will speed up appointment times, and help people get answers sooner. We [the committee] are so thankful to all of our amazing partners and sponsors who helped us raise a record-breaking $192,000 for our hospital this year. We just can’t thank them enough.”

The tournament was supported with a generous $50,000 donation from Marco Mancini, along with sponsorship from Tom Smith Chevrolet Buick GMC, Charles Morden Construction Inc., Scotiabank, NT Power, Thor Wealth Management, Balm Beach Windows & Doors, Robert Snyder & Suzanne Strongman, Midland Toyota and Paul & Sharon Harbottle. Many local businesses also provided Hole-in-One contests, prizes and auction items which added to the total revenue.

“It is awe-inspiring to see the support from businesses and individuals grow every year at this event,” adds Kraftscik. “Everyone loves it because of the fun and energy at the tournament, but also because together, everyone involved has a bigger impact on our local hospital.”

Country Club (MLG&CC) where the annual tournament is held.

golf on the prestigious course, buffet lunch, and sought after awards.

Proceeds from the event support patient care at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital
through the purchase of new and replacement tools and technology, which is only possible
with donor support.
