On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 1:20 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a report of a theft from a retail location on Edward Street in Gravenhurst and with the use of technology, were able to locate the suspect in a parking lot in Bracebridge. Officers placed the suspect under arrest and the subsequent investigation revealed that they had stolen goods from other retail locations in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge. Furthermore, officers became concerned about the individual’s impairment and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

As a result, police have charged 41- year-old Natasha Nunziato of Emsdale, ON with:

·      Operation while Impaired (drug)

·      Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (2 counts)

·      Theft Under $5000 (2 counts)

She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 4, 2026 to answer to her charges.

On Monday March 30th, 2026, at approximately 10:56 a.m., officers of the Huntsville OPP Detachment received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving the South Muskoka area travelling northbound on Highway 11 and a vehicle description was provided.

Huntsville OPP members patrolled Highway 11 and soon after located the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was stopped by police and the officer immediately suspected the driver to have alcohol in his body and demanded the driver provide a breath sample into an approved screening device. The driver failed the roadside test and was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Christopher Williams, 68 years old of Emsdale Ontario, has been charged with:

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Breach of Probation

The accused was released from custody with a court date of April 28, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

The accused was also issued a 90 Administrative Driver’s License Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The Huntsville OPP appreciate members our communities assisting them to in remove impaired drivers from our roadways.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING.

These events` could have easily been avoided had the drivers planned ahead before consuming alcohol or drugs. Don’t include alcohol or drugs in any plans to drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another option that takes driving out of the picture altogether.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Parry Sound District Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on Star Lake Road.

Police conducted an investigation and formed grounds to believe the driver had consumed alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Burk’s Falls OPP detachment, where they were lawfully required to provide breath samples. The driver declined to comply with the demand.

As a result of the investigation, Brock Sarginson, 35 years-of-age from Novar, has been charged with:

·        Operation while impaired – alcohol

·        Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge on December 18, 2025. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Officers attended the location and through investigation determined that a male driver had approached the driver of a disabled transport truck and proceeded to have a physical altercation striking the victim several times. The victim did not require medical assistance because of the assault.

Victor Betts, 74 years old of Emsdale Ontario is charged with:

·        Assault

·        Utter Threat – to cause Death or Bodily Harm

The accused is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 13, 2025 at Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario.

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., West Parry Sound OPP, Huntsville OPP and Bracebridge OPP attended a residence on Oak Street in Rosseau regarding a reported assault and arson. After investigation, one person was arrested at the scene.

George Margeson, 25-years-old from Emsdale, was charged with:

• Arson – damage to property
• Assault
• Careless storage of firearms (four counts)
• Failure to comply with undertaking
• Firearm – use while attempting to commit offence
• Theft under $5000
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)
• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (three counts)

The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on August 15, 2024.

On April 9, 2024, shortly before 1:00 p.m. members of the Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to a report from a family member advising they have not heard from their son since April 6, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.

Michael Kingston, 41 years-of-age of Emsdale Ontario was last seen at his place of work by co-workers. Michael was last seen wearing a dark grey long sleeve shirt, black jogging pants and running shoes. Michael is described as:

· 5 feet 8 inches tall

· 200 pounds

· Brown hair

· Hazel eyes

On April 29, 1986, members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the OPP, formerly known as the Burks Falls OPP, received a report that Agnes May Appleyard, 71-years-of-age at the time, was missing from a property on Highway 520, Emsdale.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit and OPP Aviation Service conducted an intensive search of the property which found no trace of the missing person. On April 17, 1987, another search of the property located human remains. 

The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service examined the remains but were unable to determine the identity of the deceased person.

In 1988, as a result of the investigation an 82-years-old male was arrested and charged with second degree murder. That individual, who is now deceased, was acquitted in court.

On November 5, 2019, following that acquittal, the Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, reopened the investigation. The Ontario Forensic Pathology Service requested familial DNA samples in effort to identify the remains.

On April 12, 2023, advancement of DNA analysis technology at the Centre of Forensic Sciences provided confirmation of the identity of the remains as Agnes Appleyard.

On Friday September 1, 2023, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), received a report of a domestic dispute in the Town of Emsdale.  

The investigation continued with the assistance of the Almaguin Highlands Crime Unit. As a result, a 38-year-old of Sundridge, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following:

·      Voyeurism

·      Extortion

·      Criminal harassment – beset and watch complainant

·      Uttering threats – damage property

·      Failure to comply with undertaking

The accused was released from custody following a bail hearing. Due to the nature of the incident the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

On Monday October 30, 2023, shortly after 9:15 a.m., members from the Almaguin Highlands OPP received a weapons call involving a youth concealing a firearm in the Village of Burk’s Falls.

With the assistance of the Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit, the investigation revealed the youth brandished and assaulted another youth with an imitation firearm. Police arrested the youth, and the imitation firearm was seized.

As a result, a 14-year-old from Emsdale, Ontario, was charged with:

• Failure to comply with undertaking
• Assault
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Pointing a firearm

The accused was release and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in November 2023 in Sundridge, Ontario. The youth cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Traffic complaints and enforcement:

Ninety-eight investigations were conducted by detachment members during this time frame.

R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere)

Twelve, R.I.D.E lanes were set up by detachment members on area roadways during this time frame.

Impaired Investigations:

On November 5, 2022, Huntsville OPP responded to a call of a car travelling in the northbound lanes of Highway 11 being driven erratically. The car was located by OPP going northbound on Highway 11 and stopped in the vicinity of Highway 60 in the town of Huntsville.  As a result of the investigation, Victor Betts (72 years of age) of Emsdale, Ontario was charged with the following:

–      Operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood

–      Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear on December 20, 2022, in the Ontario Court of Justice, Muskoka.

Motor Vehicle Collisions:

Ten motor vehicle collisions were investigated during this time frame. Please reduce your risk of being involved in a collision by following the rules of the road, and drive according to conditions i.e.: construction, weather, volume of traffic.

Domestic Violence Investigations:

Detachment members investigated 2 domestic disputes during this time frame. Charges were laid in relation to 1 of these 2 investigations.

One accused has been charged with the following:

–          Assault contrary

–          Mischief to property

The accused is scheduled to appear on December 13, 2022, in the Ontario Court of Justice, Muskoka.

SAFE WINTER DRIVING

Huntsville OPP would like to pass on some safe winter driving tips.

Prepare yourself for safe winter driving by planning your trip before starting out. Visit the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario website for road conditions at Ontario 511. Dress for winter even though you will be in the car. Carry a cell phone to contact emergency services if you experience trouble. Carry a survival kit in your vehicle. Recommended items include a shovel, blanket, booster cables, flashlight, high energy foods, matches and a candle.

Make sure your heater and defroster are working properly, check all lights including hazards to ensure they are working. Clear your car of all snow and ice, fill up windshield washer fluid if needed, and keep your fuel tank at least half full.

In bad weather if you do not need to travel stay at home. If you do need to drive, please adjust your driving accordingly. Allow extra time travelling to and from destinations and slow down. Leave ample space between yourself and the car in front of you. If you experience trouble, if possible, park your vehicle well off the roadway and stay in vehicle until help has arrived.
