OPP Help Injured Dog In Tay Township

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted with an injured dog on Saturday afternoon after receiving a call for assistance in Tay Township.

On March 28, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a dog in distress on Vasey Road in Tay Township. The caller advised that a Husky had shown up on their property with it’s face full of porcupine quills and was clearly in significant distress.

The individual caring for the dog advised they did not have the financial means to provide the necessary medical treatment.

The OPP apprehended the dog in consultation with animal control. Officers transported the dog to a 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic in Barrie for immediate attention. Animal welfare officials were notified and became involved, the dog has received care and is being re-homed.

Sweet senior dog Abby needs a special home to spend her golden years

Abby is a 16-year-old Jack Russell Terrier and Corgi mix. Very sadly, her dad fell ill and could no longer care for sweet Abby so the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre took her into their care.

Abby has led a very quiet life with her dad, and was always the centre of his world. Used to living without any fur-siblings, Abby would prefer a home where she is the only animal. She would also thrive best in a home where she doesn’t need to navigate stairs, as she’s not as mobile as she once was.

The team at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre is hoping that the perfect home is out there so this special girl can spend her twilight years with a new family that will give her the care and love she deserves. If you are interested in adopting Abby, please contact the centre at 705-645-6225 or email muskoka@ontariospca.ca with the subject line of “Adopt Abby.”

Dog Left In A Zipped Up Tent At Midland Coal Docks

Southern Georgian Bay OPP say “Pugsley” was rescued by officers after the dog was left unattended by his owner in a zipped up tent at the Midland Coal Docks in the holiday Monday sun.

Never leave your best friend unattended in the sun and heat! Temperatures can become dangerous and even fatal in minutes in a vehicle or another closed space, even in the shade. Call for help If you see an animal in distress.
