On September 16, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Orillia OPP, were contacted by members of the public stating there was an individual on a balcony exposing and touching himself. The individual’s balcony overlooks a children’s park and the neighbours house which has children. The Orillia OPP attempted to contact the individual several times and eventually located them on September 22, 2025, riding their bike down a local trail.

As a result, Keith Davies; 43-year-old, Resident of Coldwater, ON. has been subsequently charged with:

On March 27, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m, officers from Orillia OPP were conducting Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) on a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Bass Lake Side Road at Line 6 in Oro-Medonte. While screening all drivers that enter the RIDE, police encountered one driver that provided a Fail on a Approved Screening Device (ASD).

As a result, Douglas Vroom, 54-years-old, from Coldwater, ON has been charged with:

Operation while impaired-alcohol blood concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in April 2025. As a result of these charges, his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.

On October 23, 2024, York Regional Police officers attended a residence in Coldwater to execute an arrest warrant. The man received notification of this. Soon after he heard police officers knock at the door, the man cut his throat. Officers forced entry to the apartment, and they provided first-aid. The man was transported to hospital for treatment of lacerations.

Based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, Director Martino was satisfied the investigation should be discontinued. The man alone was responsible for his injuries and the officers did nothing to harm him. Rather, they saved his life. On this record, there being patently nothing to investigate as far as any officer’s potential criminal liability was concerned, the file has been closed.

On November 5, 2024, at approximately 7:35 a.m., the OPP Orillia Detachment and Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence on Highway 12. All occupants safely evacuated the residence, and no injuries have been reported.

Highway 12 northbound and southbound lanes are closed between Medonte Sideroad 2 and Dunns Line. The public should expect the road to remain closed for several more hours for investigation.
