On December 9, 2024 at 3:45 p.m. a Bracebridge OPP officer was conducting patrols on Muskoka Road 118 just west of Port Carling when he was notified by the

Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) in the police cruiser of a possible stolen vehicle. The vehicle turned in to a service centre and the officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Caledon.

Police have charged 22-year-old Yogesh Kumar of North York, ON, 23-year-old Ajpreet SINGH of Caledon, ON, 25-year-old Amritpal Singh of Caledon, ON, and 23-year-old Sumit Sumit of Scarborough, ON each with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime OVER $5000 and Possession of Break In Instruments.

Police have also charged Anmol Singh of Mississauga, ON with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime OVER $5000, Possession of Break In Instruments and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Heroin.

The accused parties will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on January 21, 2025 to answer to their charges.

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, a driver came to pick up a friend from the OPP Caledon Detachment. A member of the Caledon OPP CSCU observed the vehicle and learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the month. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle the driver of the stolen vehicle made intentional contact with a police vehicle and attempted to flee. Officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and arrest the driver and occupant.

Evidence of drug trafficking, and stolen items were recovered from the subject and vehicle.

As a result of the investigation two suspects were arrested and charged.

Joseph Navarro, 53 years old, from Mississauga has been charged with:

• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
• Flight from Police
• Assault with a Weapon
• Possession of Stolen Identity Document
• Possession of Stolen Credit Card

Trena Parsons, 39 years old, from Fenelon Township has been charged with:

• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of Stolen Identity Document
• Possession of Stolen Credit Card

All accused persons are scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in March.

On May 22, 2010, human remains were located in the Sugarbush area of Oro-Medonte Township and on Maplehurst Road in Lake of Bays Township.

On May 28, 2010, human remains were also located on Stoneleigh Road in Bracebridge. A post-mortem examination revealed that the human remains located at these locations belonged to the same person, Morris Conte.

One person was charged in July 2011 in connection with the death.
On September 26, 2022, a second person was arrested in relation to this ongoing investigation. Antonino Lucia, age 62, of Woodbridge, has been charged with First Degree Murder.

A $50,000 reward continues to be offered for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Morris Conte.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance in today’s arrest provided by the Caledon OPP Detachment, OPP Central Region Regional Support and Emergency Response Teams.

During the course of the investigation the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested.

Matthew Quesnelle, 20 years old, from Tiny Township, has been charged with:

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Over 80mgs

On Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 8 p.m., police responded to a single vehicle collision on the Caledon/King Townline south of Castlederg Side Road in Caledon.

During the course of the investigation the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested.

Edgar Cahuec, 32 years old, from Brampton, has been charged with:

• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Over 80mgs

Both accused received a 90 day driver’s license suspension and vehicle impoundments for 7 days.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in February 2022.

The Investigation determined that during the time the car was observed by Police and the time the car was fleeing from Police that the driver switched with a passenger in the car. Further investigation resulted in the below charges being brought against the following two males:

28-year-old, Anthony Toenz of Bolton, Ontario.

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol
• Operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol concentration above 80 mg
• Flight from Police
• Stunt driving
• Drive motor vehicle not equipped with an approved interlock device

28-year-old, Nicholas Pratt of Caledon, Ontario.

• Operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol
• Operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol concentration above 80 mg.

Both Toenz and Pratt were released and will be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville Ontario, on July 8, 2020 to answer to their charges.

As in all cases were a driver has been charged with impaired driving, Toenz’s and Pratt’s driver’s licenses have been suspended for 90 days and their car was impounded.
