OPP Investigating Overnight Assault With A Weapon In Midland

A 56 year old Midland resident is recovering from injuries caused by an edged weapon after he was assaulted at his home around 10:15 p.m. August 15, 2023. Officers were dispatched by the OPP Communication Centre along with Midland Fire Service and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services to a Robert Street, Midland residence after receiving information that a person had been assaulted and needed medical care.

The victim was transported by paramedics to an area hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries suffered in the incident and was later released.

Investigators sought the assistance of the OPP Central Region Canine (K-9) and Emergency Response Units (ERT) to assist in locating a male suspect who fled the scene prior to police arrival. The suspect is known to investigators and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety. Members of the public are reminded to always be aware of their personal surroundings and safety.

Male Wanted After Sexual Assault In Port Carling

Members of the Bracebridge OPP are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to a sexual assault investigation in the Town of Port Carling.

Police have just released the details today.

A sexual assault was reported to have taken place in the parking lot of a private golf club off of Highway 118 West, in the early hours of July 7, 2022, between midnight and 1:00 a.m. The victim, a female in her early 40s, was approached and sexually assaulted by a male while standing outside the rear door of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck in the staff parking area approximately 150 yards (~140 metres) from the main club building entrance. The male then quickly walked away towards the general parking lot area.

The male is described as approximately 5’8″ with a lean build, short salt and pepper hair, wearing a white long sleeve shirt and dark-coloured pants.

Investigators believe there may have been witnesses in the area at the time of the assault.

A sexual offence can be reported to police no matter how long ago it happened, and someone can be charged. Orillia OPP Appealing For Witnesses After An Assault With A Weapon

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the OPP are appealing to the public to assist in identifying two suspects and a vehicle after an assault with a weapon incident on Cumberland Road in the area of Cumberland Beach.

On February 27, 2022, shortly after 11 p.m., police responded to a call where a male and female had knocked on a residence door looking for assistance. During the conversation, the female suspect assaulted the resident. Both suspects then fled in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction.

Ontario Recognizes Sexual Assault Prevention Month

Today, Jill Dunlop, Associate Minister of Children and Women’s Issues, issued the following statement on Sexual Assault Prevention Month:

“Sexual assault is a stain on society and is absolutely abhorrent. Our government has zero tolerance for violence in any form and we are committed to preventing it and supporting survivors.

May is Sexual Assault Prevention Month. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the devasting impact of this crime, to better understand its deep cultural and historical roots, to support victims and survivors and to work together to stop the violence.

It’s also an opportunity to highlight the strength and resilience of survivors, and to recognize the accomplishments of the individuals and organizations that are working to raise awareness of sexual assault, support victims and prosecute offenders.

In Canada, one in three women and one in six men will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. Women are three times more likely to be stalked and four times more likely to be a victim of intimate partner violence.

Indigenous women and girls are even more likely to be victims of assault as are other racialized, minority and vulnerable communities.

And tragically, the prevalence of all gender-based violence, including domestic violence and sexual assault, has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This heartbreaking reality only serves to prove that more needs to be done within our neighbourhoods to ensure women are safe.

Eliminating this violence is the responsibility of each and every one of us – and I am proud of how our government is working to make this a reality through targeted investments focused on prevention and supporting survivors. We cannot stay silent on an issue that has devastating consequences to victims, survivors and their families.

We all have an obligation to do everything we can to raise awareness of sexual assault, support victims and survivors and hold offenders accountable. Bracebridge Man Charged With Assault With A Weapon

A local man has been arrested for assault with a weapon following an incident at a Bracebridge residence on Pinecone Drive on Jan. 19.

Officers from the Bracebridge OPP were dispatched to a residence on Pinecone Drive for a call regarding a serious assault at 8 p.m. on Jan. 19. A dispute within the home escalated quickly, according to police, and a man was assaulted with a weapon and transported to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The man was later released.

Following an investigation, police have arrested and charged 23-year-old Steven McCarty of Bracebridge with:

Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm CC264.1(1)(a)
Failing to Comply with Probation CC733.1(1) X 2

McCarty will appear in court in Bracebridge for a bail hearing on Jan. 20.
