Sundridge Man Banned From Owning Animals For One Year

A 33-year-old Sundridge man has been convicted under provincial animal welfare legislation following an investigation relating to the welfare of dogs in his care.

Gregory Allan Jackson Hall was found guilty on November 2, 2018 in Parry Sound Court of failing to provide adequate and appropriate sanitary conditions and failing to comply with an order.

The court ordered Hall to abide by a one-year prohibition on owning, having custody of, caring for or living with any animal. Following the completion of the prohibition order, for a period of five years he is restricted to owning no more than one dog. The Ontario SPCA was granted inspection rights during that period to ensure compliance with the court orders. The Justice of the Peace fined Hall $1,000 and he was ordered to pay $1,337 in restitution to the Ontario SPCA.

On Aug. 30, 2017, Ontario SPCA officers attended a home in Sundridge after receiving a concern relating to the welfare of three dogs on the property. The officers observed that two of the dogs were underweight and served Hall with orders to have both animals examined by a veterinarian.

When Hall could not be located to verify the dogs had received the necessary veterinary care, Ontario SPCA officers executed a warrant at his home. Inside they found the three dogs living amongst debris, with feces and urine throughout the building. The dogs had no potable water to drink and were subsequently removed.  The dogs recovered in the care of the Ontario SPCA and all three were later adopted into new homes.

“There is no excuse for an animal to be living in unsanitary conditions without access to basic necessities like water,” says Alison Green, Senior Inspector, Ontario SPCA. “We are pleased that this situation had a positive outcome for the dogs and that they are now receiving the care they require.”
