On June 9, 2019 West Parry Sound OPP were on patrol on James Street in Parry Sound, Ontario. At shortly after 2:30 a.m. police stopped a vehicle after it stopped for a prolonged time at a stop sign and then entered a dead end street. Police determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.
George Sykes, a 20-year-old from Seguin Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80),
- Fail to surrender insurance card
- Novice driving – B.A.C. above zero
The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Parry Sound Court on July 4, 2019. The driver’s licence and vehicle were impounded for seven days.
The West Parry Sound Detachment arrested its twenty-fifth impaired driver of 2019.
