The West Parry Sound OPP arrested their sixteenth impaired driver of 2019 after stopping a McKellar man at a R.I.D.E check on April 13, according to a news release from the OPP on April 15.
Members of the West Parry Sound OPP were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) checks on William Street in Parry Sound when just before 1 a.m. a vehicle approached the check while weaving and making jerking steering movements. The officer spoke to the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol. Derek Ridsdale, 42, from McKellar was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).
Ridsdale was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on May 2. The vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days.
The OPP said they want to remind motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police at 9-1-1 immediately.
