Collingwood will be hosting its second annual harbour festival on August 6-7, 2016.

Sidelaunch Days is a two-day multi-venue, multi-recreational event celebrating the joy of being in, on, and around South Georgian Bay while commemorating the unique shipbuilding heritage of Collingwood. Bring the whole family to this great event!

There will be boat loads of fun activities starting at 9:00 a.m. on both days.  Saturday will continue into the evening with the addition of two new events at the Amphitheatre: a free concert by three finalists from the Collingwood Live & Original Songwriter Showdown including 2016 Winner Mike Charette at 7:00 p.m. and the inaugural Parade of Lights boat parade at 9:00 p.m., presented by the Collingwood Yacht Club.

On SUP Saturday, the side launch basin and harbour will feature stand-up paddling (SUP) races and demonstrations.  From four distance categories to sprint races and team races on Blu Wave’s giant SUP, these events are real crowd-pleasers and lots of fun for both spectators and participants.

Regatta Sunday will kick off with a free waterside yoga session by Buddha Rider, followed by Canoe & Kayak Trials presented by Free Spirit Tours and Big Brothers Big Sisters Georgian Triangle.  As the winds pick up, Kites over Collingwood will take flight at Millennium Park starting at noon, and the 2:00 p.m. featured commentary of the Collingwood Sailing School Regatta will take place at the Amphitheatre.

Throughout the weekend kids will also have lots to do Downtown as well.  They can enjoy special events at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning, or head to the harbour all weekend long for the Eats, Treats and Art Promenade, the Kids Kite and Craft Centre or the Imagination Playground.

“Sidelaunch Days celebrates our community’s passion for our waterfront, and activities on or beside the water,” commented Dean Collver, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture.  “The heritage of Collingwood, both natural and built, is a focus of the weekend activities. We’re looking forward to seeing families explore familiar spaces while hopefully seeing them in a new light.”  One of the exploration activities is the new Water Taxi which will ferry people to four different harbour locations between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

A local favourite, the Side Launch Brewing “Dockside Bar”, will be back again but in a new location on the Promenade, giving guests some of the best views of all the water activities in the harbour.  New this year, local craft brewer, Side Launch, will also be at the “Upper Deck Lounge” which will open on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Amphitheatre and serve into the evening. Everyone is invited to enjoy an award-winning craft beer, while taking in one of the most spectacular vistas in Ontario.”
