Today, Todd Smith, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services announced the designation of Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag as an Indigenous Children’s Aid Society. The announcement reaffirms a commitment to work together to improve outcomes and opportunities for Indigenous children and youth in Durham, Highland Shores, Kawartha-Haliburton, Simcoe Muskoka and York Region.

“Indigenous children’s aid societies play an important role in delivering culturally appropriate services to children, youth, and families in their communities,” said Minister Smith. “Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services has developed a service model in line with community input and expectations. Today is a day to celebrate everything that you have accomplished. We will continue to work collaboratively with your staff and board members to fully achieve your vision for service delivery.”

The Province has made a firm commitment to providing children in care with culturally appropriate supports and services. By working with our children’s aid societies, the province supports ongoing efforts to keep children and youth with their families and in their communities, whenever possible.
