A 28-year-old Orillia man has been arrested and charged for a series of property-related crimes committed throughout the city, according to a news release from the OPP on May 31.
The Orillia and Southern Georgian Bay Detachments of the OPP started to receive multiple complaints of property-related crimes in Orillia on May 24. Police received a report of a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe stolen between the hours of 8:30 p.m. on May 23 and 2:15 a.m. on May 24. They also received a call that a vehicle that in the Quinn Avenue area had been entered with credit cards being stolen and used at a local business at about 6 a.m. on May 24. In addition, members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP received two separate calls for service regarding thefts from local fuel stations on May 24.
Police were able to identify the person responsible all incidents related to the property crimes. Robert Roy Ruddock, 28, of Orillia was arrested and charged with Theft Over $5,000, Theft Under $5,000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Use of Credit Card Data and Breach of Probation. Ruddock was held in custody to attend a bail hearing on May 29 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
