The North East Region OPP have announced that Sergeant Dominic Lalonde will be promoted to staff sergeant and be the new detachment commander for the Almaguin Highlands OPP starting Aug. 19.
Lalonde began his career with the OPP in June 2008. He transferred from the Ottawa Police Service after working as a police officer since 2004 and serving as a transit law enforcement officer prior to that. Lalonde’s first posting with the OPP was in Temagami before he was transferred to the Noelville Detachment in 2013, where he served as a front line member and then became a detective for a specialized crime unit in 2014. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in March 2016 and took on the roles of team leader and administrative sergeant for the Sudbury Detachment. Lalonde also worked as the acting detachment commander for the West Parry Sound OPP from Oct. 2018 to March 2019, allowing him to develop relationships with the Parry Sound District partners and community leaders.
“I am very proud to have been chosen to lead the dedicated officers of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment to continue to provide effective front line emergency response services and investigative excellence to the communities we serve,” Lalonde said. “Together, our team of highly skilled and professional officers will continue to keep our communities safe in partnership with our community leaders and engaged external agencies.”
