Off-Duty OPP Officer Charged With Impaired Driving


An off-duty police officer was charged with impaired driving following a single vehicle collision in Wasauksing First Nation.

Officers from the West Parry Sound OPP were requested to assist the Anishinabek Police Service with investigating a single motor vehicle collision on Deemeemguk Road at about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 6. Their investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor in the accident and the driver was off-duty Provincial Constable Mark Leitch of Wainfleet, Ont. Leitch, 49, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code; 
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

Leitch is an 18-year member with the OPP and is scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on Oct. 31.
