The North York Knights had a big win off the ice this winter season, raising over $2,300 through the fundraising program at Don’s Bakery.
The North York Knights Minor Novice Select White Team participated in the fundraiser throughout November. Players sold take-home bakery items like frozen cookie dough and ready-to-bake pies to raise money and the treats were delivered to customers in December.
“To be apart of something this special, with grassroots hockey in Toronto was simply amazing!” said Bryan Foster, coach and owner of Don’s Bakery. “I love hockey and I love seeing young hockey players learning the game and getting a chance to have more ice time. All they want to do is play hockey and I couldn’t be happier!”
The fundraising program at Don’s Bakery started in April 2018. Since then, groups like sports teams and schools have used the program to sell baked goods to support their group’s functions. The North York Knights Minor Novice Select White Team are one of several groups who have had success with the program.
“What an incredible initiative!” said Asher Lichtman, team manager. “The parents loved it, the kids loved it and most of all the community ate it up! We are already taking re-orders as people can’t let go of the irresistibly good Don’s Bakery – we couldn’t have imagined a response to the fundraiser like we had.”
