The North East Region OPP have announced that Staff Sergeant S.J. (Shaun) Crabbe will be the new Detachment Commander (DC) of the West Parry Sound OPP.
Crabbe started his career with the OPP in the Owen Sound area after being posted to Grey County Detachment when he graduated from the Ontario Police College and Provincial Police Academy. At this posting, he performed specialized frontline duties including coach officer, scenes of crime officer and breath technician. Crabbe was seconded as a detective constable to the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit and the secondment involved large scale, multi-jurisdictional drug and organized crime investigations throughout southwestern Ontario. Following those duties, Crabbe was posted to the Bruce Peninsula Detachment, which included the summer detachments of Sauble Beach and Tobermory. There he worked as a front line constable, an administration sergeant and platoon sergeant – team leader.
Crabbe has experience as a DC, serving as DC for OPP Detachments in Pickle Lake, Red Lake and Kenora after he transferred to the North West Region in 2012. His DC duties in those locations included providing police services to multiple Indigenous communities as well.
He is also a designated OPP Critical Incident Commander (CIC). CICs command and oversee the OPP’s response to high risk incidents such as hostage takings, armed barricaded subjects, high risk warrant executions, high risk canine tracks, witness protection and any other situation requiring the operational deployment of specific specialized resources.
The North East Region OPP said they want to welcome Crabbe to the region.
