MPPs Norm Miller and Andrea Khanjin attended the grand opening of the new Arrowhead Provincial Park Visitor Centre on Dec. 11 to congratulate the park staff and officially open the centre.
The grand opening marked the end of four years’ work on the facility as well as the end of the Ontario Parks’ 125th anniversary year. Miller, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka, and Khanjin, MPP for Barrie-Innisfil and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, congratulated and thanked the park staff, design team and construction crews for their work on the centre. They also spoke about the importance of Ontario Parks for the environment and for the health of community members, encouraging the First Day Hike in which residents spend part of Jan. 1 having their first hike of the year in an Ontario park. The event also included refreshments and live music from singer-songwriter David Archibald in addition to a tour of the facility.
“This additional stunning facility that we’re all standing in today is an example of how Ontario Parks staff are always looking to make visitors experience a stunning and well-managed and better place each time you visit,” Khanjin said. “It is with great enthusiasm today that I officially declare the Ontario Arrowhead Visitor Centre open.”
The park will open for the 2019 winter season on Dec. 14 for activities like skating through torches and ski events.
