Dr. Khaled Abdel-Razek has been appointed as Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s (MAHC) new chief of staff effective June 3, according to an announcement from Board of Directors Chair Phil Matthews on April 25.

Abdel-Razek has practiced as an obstetrician and gynaecologist at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) since December 2004. He is a medical graduate of the Ain Shams University in Cairo, where he completed his internship, residency and fellowship in obstetrics/gynaecology. Abdel-Razek is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has a diploma in health care administration. He will be part of Harvard Medical School’s class of 2020 with his recent acceptance into Harvard’s Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership program.

“Dr. Abdel-Razek is a respected clinician and surgeon, physician leader and health care administrator, and a mentor and educator,” Matthews said. “We are delighted to welcome him to the Senior Leadership Team at MAHC and look forward to his energy, optimism, effective communication and passion for teamwork.”

Abdel-Razek has held leadership roles at OSMH including chief of obstetrics and, more recently, surgical program medical director, which he will continue along with his chief of staff responsibilities for MAHC. He also worked as an international specialist physician at the University of Toronto and is an award-winning clinician, receiving the Physician Leadership Award in 2014 and the Clinical Excellence Award from OSMH in July 2009.

“It is with great happiness and sincere humility that I will assume my duties as Chief of Staff at MAHC,” Abdel-Razek said. “My admiration of MAHC is no secret to all those who know me and work with me. The experience I have had as a care provider at MAHC and the experience of my Muskoka and area patients has always been extremely positive, so it is only natural that I am excited and proud to join MAHC’s leadership and work more closely with everyone at MAHC.”

Abdel-Razek has been a colleague to local doctors for over a decade and was credentialed at MAHC in 2013 to provide gynaecological surgery locally in Muskoka. He said he looks forward to supporting “clinically responsive, fiscally efficient” care that adapts to the changing dynamics of the healthcare system and population.

  1. Congratulations! Dr. Khaled Abdel-Razek
Dr. Khaled Abdel-Razek delivered both of my children. My son in Orillia in 2014, my daughter in Bracebridge in 2016. He made arrangements to deliver my daughter in bracebridge due to the factor that my mother was terminally ill and couldn’t travel to Orillia to be their for the birth, I am forever grateful. He is an amazing doctor and all around great person. All the Best!
