Huntsville OPP Find Gun During Traffic Stop

Huntsville OPP conducted a traffic stop on Main St. West in Huntsville on the 8th of August 2019. Investigation into the driver of the car led to the arrest of a 49-year-old Thomas Mortensen for breach of probation.

Further investigation by Police led to the location of a handgun and Mortensen being charged with the following:

  1. Possession of Firearm or Ammunition
  2. Fail to Comply with Probation Order X4
  3. Possession of loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  4. Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  5. Possession of Firearm or Ammunition
  6. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  7. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

The accused was held in custody by Police and scheduled to appear in Bracebridge court for a bail hearing.

  1. Bad situation! How we got to this guy doing this was the lack of justice when it comes to firearms. The laws around firearms is more then enough in the country! Here we have a criminal with bad intentions and has told the justice system to go away. He will get bail, then meet the officers that charged him coming in for the next shift! Toughen up the justice system, give these criminals the time! JAIL TIME! No need to chase law abiding citizens, we seem to demonize the victim in this country and support or feel sorry for the bad guy! Safe day to all first responders!
