Glen Orchard Public School students got a chance to star on stage and work with a professional performing arts company for their school’s production of Beauty and the Beast, according to a news release from the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) on May 27.
The students performed Beauty and the Beast after working with Hub Productions during the week of May 13. Hub Productions directed the play, giving students an authentic experience of what it’s like to be part of a full play production. The entire school of about 160 students, ranging from junior kindergarten to Grade 8, worked with the performing arts company, where they were cast for roles, learned their lines, became immersed in character, and reviewed scenes during the three days of rehearsals. Students gave a final performance to a gym full of parents and staff on May 17.
Last year, students presented the Lion King. This year’s performance, like last year’s, was a huge success, according to the release. The week-long project, which encompasses many curriculum expectations including dance, music, drama, literacy, and arts, gave students the chance to engage in dramatic arts, some for the first time.
