Orillia Council has appointed Brent Thomas as Fire Chief of the Orillia Fire Department effective Dec. 10, 2019.

Thomas has been serving as Acting Fire Chief since April 1, 2019, following the retirement of former Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli.

“I would like to congratulate Chief Thomas on his appointment to Fire Chief of our esteemed Fire Department in the City Orillia,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “During his time as Acting Fire Chief, Thomas demonstrated excellent leadership skills and a deep caring for the Orillia community. Council and I were unanimous in our decision to officially appoint Chief Thomas to the position.”

Thomas has been a member of the Orillia Fire Department since 2014, where he served as Assistant Fire Chief responsible for training and overseeing the City’s emergency management program. Thomas brings extensive experience to the position of Fire Chief as a result of his 30 years in the fire service, 10 years as a paramedic and involvement in provincial fire service committees and training groups that will provide added value to the Orillia Fire Department moving forward.

“During his time as Acting Fire Chief, Thomas provided dedicated service to the community and positive leadership. On behalf of City staff, I would like to congratulate Chief Thomas on his appointment and wish him all the best in the position moving forward,” said Gayle Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer.

“It is an absolute pleasure to serve the Orillia Fire Department and the people of Orillia. When my family first moved to Orillia five years ago we fell in love with the city and have established deep roots in the community. I am honored to be appointed as Fire Chief of the Orillia Fire Department and I look forward to continuing to lead our amazing team.”
