South River And Burk’s Falls Should Prepare For Freezing Rain Tonight Into Saturday

Special weather statement continued for:
South River – Burk’s Falls,
Western Algonquin Park – Lake of Two Rivers,

Current details:
Freezing rain or rain tonight into Saturday.

Hazards:
Freezing rain with some ice accretion possible.
Rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm.

Timing:
Tonight into Saturday morning.

Discussion:
Two weather systems will affect the area over the next two days. The first will move through today bringing near 5 cm of snow. The snow will then change to rain or freezing rain tonight as a second and much stronger system begins to move in. Utility outages will be possible for areas that receive freezing rain. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

There remains some uncertainty at this point to the placement of the freezing rain and heavy rainfall. Freezing rain or rainfall warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer.

For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details.
