On June 16, Dr. Colin Lee, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s associate medical officer of health, will participate in a panel discussion, Antivirals: The New Wonder Drugs. Moderated by Dr. Keith Rose, Dr. Lee will be joined by Vaughan Mallows, pharmacist at Georgian Bay General Hospital and HIV advocate Carla Evans to discuss how new antiviral medications have succeeded in the fight against diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis and COVID-19.
Antiviral medications help the body fight off harmful viruses by easing symptoms and shortening the length of a viral infection. Antivirals also lower the risk of getting or spreading viruses that cause illness, hospitalizations and death. In some cases, treatment regimens of antiviral medications are curing diseases that at one time resulted in very high death rates.
Hosted by Our Health, this live panel discussion will take place at the Midland Cultural Centre on June 16 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. In-person tickets are free with registration. Venue capacity is reduced and masking is required. The program will also be broadcast and aired live on all Simcoe County Rogers TV stations and will be available online for streaming.
