On June 2, 2021, the Orillia OPP contacted the SIU to report that a 30-year-old woman they had taken into custody that date had sustained stab wounds in the course of her arrest.
Following an altercation with a couple of OPP police officers that marked her arrest for trespass to property, in which one-half of a pair of scissors was reportedly produced by the woman and responsible for her injuries and the officers, the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
The SIU Director, Joseph Martino, said, “Based on the SIU preliminary inquiries, which included an interview with the woman and a review of her medical records, I am satisfied that the she did not suffer a serious injury within the SIU’s mandate. Accordingly, the SIU is without jurisdiction in this matter, and the investigation is discontinued.”
