RVH Looking For New Members To Join Its Patient And Family Advisory Council

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) is committed to putting patients and their families first and that means viewing the healthcare experience through their eyes.

RVH is currently looking for new members to join its Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) as Patient Family Advisors (PFAs) and share their own patient experience to improve the quality and safety of the care we provide.

The council represents the voice of RVH’s patient and families who have unique experiences, insights and expertise that are invaluable to improving care. RVH’s PFAC provides an opportunity for patients and families to participate as partners in planning services and processes which can positively shape the patient experience.

“PFAs provide important insight that helps our health centre identify and address needs in all aspects of care,” says Gail Hunt, RVH President and CEO. “They help lead real change by improving and simplifying communications and processes, making it easier for patients and families to navigate the healthcare system.”

Recently, PFAs have participated in projects such as home hemodialysis equipment trial and evaluation, my health carepatient portal testing, cardiovascular rehab review, tours of the health centre and RVH’s off-site programs and recruitment of leadership roles. There is a wide variety of projects and committees that interested candidates can participate in.

Patients, or family members of a patient, who have been cared for at the health centre within the past two years are eligible to apply.

“Being a PFAC member is an incredibly fulfilling opportunity. Through our experiences, we can take action and create real change at the health centre. It’s a great way to lend your voice to help TEAM RVH improve patient care,” says Carolyn Forgie-French, a PFAC member for eight years.
