Muskoka is one of the most popular long-distance trips for Torontonians who use car-sharing services, according to a new report from Canadian car-sharing company Communauto.

Muskoka was named as one of the most popular long-distance destinations alongside Prince Edward County. The report also found that one in five Torontonians would consider getting rid of their household vehicle and using a car-sharing service instead. Since launching their FLEX service in November, Communauto has had over 2,000 users take more than 30,000 trips. The average trip is 20 kilometres and over three hours in duration, with the most common uses ranging from shopping to work tasks. About 5 per cent of weekend trips last over 24 hours, according to the report.

Communauto FLEX uses a pay-as-you-go structure. Daily trips begin at $0.41 per minute, $15 per hour, $50 for the first day and $35 for any extra days, fuel price included. The first 150 kilometres is included in the price of each trip.

Torontonians can book cars that are parked in residential on-street parking spaces within a 50 kilometre square service area. Users can then drive anywhere they want to go before dropping the car off in any legal parking space in the service area, except metered parking spaces and Green P lots.
