Curbside garbage collection in Muskoka will transition to a bi-weekly winter schedule beginning the week of November 1st.
The District Municipality of Muskoka encourages residents to avoid any inconvenience by referring to the Waste Management Guide to confirm scheduled collection days. Guides are available at any landfill or transfer station, at public libraries and municipal offices. Residents can also request a copy online by visiting www.muskokarecycles.ca or www.muskoka.on.ca.
During the winter schedule, sorted recycling and green bins continue to be collected every week. These programs continue year-round in an effort to keep recyclable materials from entering Muskoka’s landfill. When recycled, aluminum cans and plastic bottles are repurposed into new products in less than two months; if put into a garbage bag, those materials may take over 100 years to break down.
The “Waste Wizard” tool on the District of Muskoka’s website – www.muskokarecycles.ca is a great resource to use, to help you understand how to dispose of various garbage and recycling products. Simply type an item or product in the search bar, and the tool will let residents know if it is recyclable, compostable, or destined for the landfill.
